I'm thinking about getting one. Any suggestions? One brand better than another?

Barker seems highly regarded. Especially their 4-wheeler with the side dump.

Read reviews on the one you are considering. Owners of some brands report the units breaking.

I went on-line and did my researched ending up with a 30 gallon tank. I bought mine from PPL Motorhomes on line. I have used this tank several times towing it behind the truck to dump the waste. I am will please with the tank and here is a link for the one I purchased.

I also bought the Barker (blue one) I think 42 gallon with the side dump valve. I have seen no issues with the unit aside from the plastic wheels seem VERY loud when driving over asphalt. Don't plan to dump at night or 6am... I do like that late evenings when we all want to take showers I can dump the gray and continue on showering. Next day we dump twice. I also have noticed that the plastic wheels are starting to wear down but I had intentions on replacing the wheels with rubber or pneumatic. Would allow me to tow faster.

Over on rv.net, there's a thread on modding for the rubber wheels, and some innovative ways to store and carry the tanks when traveling.

And here's another way to tow your tank to and from the dump station:

Steve, Put some air-bags on that thing and you can tow the Cougar. "bouncey:

Come on Hank... you know full well that air bags won't increase the towing capacity! I wonder if he is exceeding his towing limits? The guy on the Honda can't be Steve since he rarely travels with his holding tanks full. Sorry, Steve.

We had to kick some people out of our park and they left a full one behind. They moved to another park about 20 miles away and all was well . Till the county health department handed them a ticket then the DNR wrote them one that made the health department one look like chump change because they left their valve open when they left. They went from camping to homeless in 8 hours. DNR had their camper impounded and they never paid the fine to pick it up. Of course it was all my fault because I had them arrested for vandalism

I'm very happy with my Barker 42 gallon. I found mine, used on Craigslist and was in very good shape for a very reasonable price.

I acquired a blue heavy duty plastic 55gal. Drum and put some fittings and a 1" x 20' clear hose on it. I pump the waste into the drum using a Flojet waste pump hooked to the 1" hose. I just keep the drum in the rear of the truck, fill it, flush the line, gravity feed dump at the dump station, flush the tank with water hose, and close the 1" valves installed on the drum. There's no mess, and I never worry about overfilling the drum(38 gal. Black tank).
