How to Adjust Awning Windows?

I did a search on site and came up dry. Does anyone have any advise on how to adjust the awning windows? The typical crank out style.

Mine seem to hang up. In that I mean, the sash drags on the frame. So much so they are extremely hard to open and close.

Any thoughts or personal insight before I rip and tear? Or just take a BFH to them,lol

I think I know what you are referring to. The windows that crank out with the knob? Like the kitchen and small side windows on the slides on our model? I have used some of the Dry Silicon spray on the edges and it seems to help.

Yes, those are the units I am referring to. I have a can of spray with me and will try that first.

I got the chance to work on this today.

The 2 kitchen windows, the spray worked well. I used the silicone spray on the linkage,mechanism, and frame of operator and fixed part of window.

The larger living unit I tried the same treatment and came up dry. It continues to hangup on the bottom left side. ( exterior view ) I completely removed operator window and inspected everything. There were no obvious signs of problem.

I will have to revisit this and maybe go as far as completely removing entire window unit. I will try a couple of less time consuming things as time permits.

IE: removing screws from the inside and attempt to move that corner.

Carl,

On that larger window, you may find that the frame is large enough that it can be flexed or skewed a tiny bit when the mounting screws are tightened down. That could be just enough to cause the problem that you're having.

You might find that just loosening the screws and letting it sit for a day or two will allow the frame to resume its proper shape especially if the trailer is somewhere warm so that the putty can be soft enough to move with the frame.

Thanks for the input. What you are suggesting is my next plan of attack. I am in a warm climate for the winter so I may have success with this approach. I'll be sure to keep you posted.

I also googled troubleshooting the HEHR windows like I have and came up with this, could be useful, I'll have to read it over as I have only skimmed it so far.

I just spent 1/2 hour looking at this again. It turns out the problem is extrusion on operator side has a "lump". It is where the extrusion joins together. (weld point)

One important tidbit of info I had failed to relay. This window is also an emergency exit. So loosening off screws to move frame will have no affect.

I will use a dremel and shave that spot down and repaint the area. That will have to wait until I am home.

I have however come up with a temporary solution that allows to window to open and close smoothly. I used a candle and rubbed down both operator and frame of window. The window now closes without having to go outside and push it closed.

I don't think i will bother with contacting HEHR for warranty as this truly is what I consider a small issue.
