I pinched my 7 pin cable just back from the plug and opened up a few wires not totally severed. i figured i could just cut out the pinched wire and put in a heat shrink solder piece versus having to replace the whole cable. DW suggests i should call the dealer and pay an outrageous price to get it fixed.

You can get a new plug, cut off the bad section and rewire. You’ll lose maybe 6” of length and it will look clean.

Earlier this spring, I had some significant corrosion on the 7 pin connector on my flatbed trailer. I ordered a replacement from CURT. I was really disappointed in the quality of the plug. The outer plastic was much thinner and more brittle than on past CURT plugs that I've bought. It may be the "new management" (Lippert bought CURT) or it may be the "way they're holding down costs" or it may be that CURT has turned into "junk".... At any rate, I returned it and bought a Bargman plug. It's a much heavier, stronger plug and, just a guess, but it'll probably be around much longer than the CURT replacement would have been before I need to replace it again.....

If I were you, I'd take a look at Bargman or Peterson or even Sequent plugs. Lately, it seems to me, that CURT has really cheapened much of what they used to be noted for: Quality, durable and reliable towing products..... Sad to see another "industry standard" become a "importer of cheap crap from China"..... YMMV

So I went to the dealer to appease the DW and as I knew , they said I could cut the cord and just put a new end. It would be cheaper than buying some solder heat connectors and would work just as well

By doing it the way the others stated you will have a much better 7 way cord. Soldered wires won’t do well with this application
