what a great week

Well we just got back from a week out at the river and the weather was just great. Warm during the day at about 60 and the nights got down in the high 20's and low 30's. I have to say the heater really worked great. We even bought a LP fire pit for out side. So much easier and nicer than messing with wood. When you want to going inside for the night just turn off the valve, no flames or sparks to worry about after you go inside.

I wish we where able to camp this time of year but about all the CG's around here close for winter Looking forward to march. hers a question that is a little off topic but I will be in dallas mid march for business. It should be really nice... in the 70's to 80's in the day and 50's at night. And with some really big hope we will get lots of rain that time of year. I am about 2 hours south of there.

North Texas can have some "confusing" weather in March. Overall, one can expect pleasant cool to warm days with chilly to cool nights. Check Weather.com's ten day forecast before you leave. I've seen snow and ice in March, and I've seen days when the temperature approached 100. We're under a severe drought right now that is expected to continue for at least another year or two. So, you might not see any rain, but again, you might see a severe thunderstorm with tornadoes. All of us wish that some front would move in and stay for a couple of weeks with a continuous light, ground soaking rain.

So, best bet is just to check the forecast as you get the suitcase out.

You've all placed me in "envy" mode. Here in New York, most campgrounds close by mid-October and don't open until April.

It is nice to live in Texas, if for no other reason than to be able to drive a short distance and camp with all the "winter Texans". We also camped last week at Cedar Hill State Park in the Dallas area while we visited daughter and grandchildren in that area for the holidays. I highly recommend that park if you are ever visiting that area. One caveat to Texas camping however is that summers can be brutal; as demonstrated by this past summer.

Our "neighbors at the storage lot" just left yesterday for South Texas. The 56 F degree days and 28 F degree nights is just a little chilly for them. Of course (earlier post) the 76F day on Saturday, New Year's Eve. . . :bdance:

I do understand and have sympathy for those in colder climes. Spent a very cold winter in Baltimore one year, and then there was that time I got located in Flint, MI! Can anyone ever see the ground under the snow in Flint before May? :confused: And then all those winter trips to Calgary! Thank god for the +15!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You Texans have some great/not-so-great weather extremes. Our son, from Houston, visited us over the holidays looking forward to snow for the kids after experiencing a long100-degree stretch last summer. We, of course had none & even had some 50-degree days. The buds were showing on some trees, golf courses had opened. Now the temp. has dropped, but no snow yet.
I'm glad you are enjoying your fine weather while all we can do is plan & look forward to some great 3-season campiong while enjoying our winter wonderland here in the great northeast.

Being from Upstate New York, I hear you. One thing to think about though... We live less than 7hrs south of New York State, say around Dansville or Geneseo area, doable for long weekend or better yet a four day weekend and there are a number of year round campgrounds open. All depends year to year with snow potential but much milder down here. Harpers Ferry or Northern Virginia just off Rt 15 have places to camp, stuff to do... much! Stuff around here an hour or less, air and space museum, Quantico, D.C. Anyway, until moving here we never realized just how close it was to Upstate. November and December camping is pretty common around here, then starts up again March.
