So i changed out all my shocks ob my pickup and the are the rancho 9000xl adjustables... the first time towing our 261rbs bullet this year and the front end felt floaty but not at all last year.. do i need to add stuffness to the rear to bring more to the front or soften the rear.

Have you adjusted the 9000s to the most firm setting? Those are the ones for towing IIRC. I put them on one of my 4x4s I was building and didn't like them for that reason. I put 5000s back on like I had before (4x4). The Ranchos are used a lot in offroading and they seem to be valved to be "softer" or more compliant due to the hard jolts etc. when running off road. That same philosophy seemed to carry over into their top of the line 9000. I never considered them for towing due to that. I use Bilsteins on my TV. JMO

I know you just replaced the shocks and you probably don’t want to hear this, but they are not the right shocks for towing. They are great for offroad, but not so much for towing. I believe yours are adjustable so you might have to play around with settings to get it to feel right and it’s going to take a lot of trial and error.

I just went to Bilstien 5100’s and had no negative changes to my ride when towing and give me better than OEM non-towing ride quality.

I doubt that shocks would cause your front end to float. The usual cause is unloading the front end. Shocks do not unload the the front end. Although you may not believe you have made any changes to your WD adjustments, it is time to go back to the CAT scale and dial the WD back in.
