Could it be wires from the shore power plugin to allow for a hard-wired surge protector/EMS?

The box photo'd is in the rear storage compt of the TT.
The 250bhs solar ready/prep comes in a different box in the front pass-through.

Have you pulled the cover to see what's under there? Do you have a remote for the trailer? I had a box just like that in my last trailer and can't remember for sure but believe the control unit for the remote was under it.

Behind that panel will be the Romex cable loop that wires the 3 outlets (bedroom,kitchen,TV) marketed as Solar Ready or Solar Prepped for connection to a automatic transfer switch and inverter. If you wish to use an inverter, that Romex cable needs to be cut and connected to a transfer switch which gets plugged into an inverter`. You need to confirm which end feeds back to your electrical panel and which end goes to the transfer switch. You should see a breaker on your panel labelled "Solar" . We went with an Xantrex ProWatt SW for the transfer switch.

I just had this done on our new 2021 Passport 2500RK GT . Also behind the bulkhead and either behind that cap or near it will be the 2 cables coming from solar gland on the roof to the batteries for connection to solar panels if you chose to add them. The one caveat to all this is that I have a question out to the dealership to confirm that the "solar" breaker on the panel is indeed for the 3 pre-wired outlets. That is everyone's assumption but I don't pick up the trailer until Saturday. If this isn't confirmed before then I will let you know.

My 2020 cougar has the solar breaker... it does go to the three outlets ...I installed a xantrex freedom x 2000

That black plastic cover is the "junction box cover" for the trailer shore power inlet. Behind it is the rear part of the male shore power receptacle. To that is the ROMEX cable that connects the outlet to the power center.

I suppose you "could" install an EMS by cutting the ROMEX or by disconnecting it and attaching the ROMEX to the EMS output and buying some additional ROMEX to "jumper" the receptacle to the EMS input....

If you do that, you're going to have a "fragile electrical component" with a phone cable plug that's wired to the EMS remote "more or less strung though that storage compartment"... That's going to lead to an almost predictable snag on the remote cable, something wet being spilled into the EMS or something heavy "bouncing against it for a full day's towing"....

I wouldn't mount my EMS in that compartment.

Much simpler would be to disconnect the ROMEX at the power distribution center, wire that to the EMS input, and use a short run of ROMEX to connect the EMS output to the power center circuit breaker panel. That way, the remote "phone cable" is protected, the EMS is not exposed in a storage space and there's less probability that it will be damaged.

My opinion: Can it be mounted near that black plastic cover? Yep... Should it? NOPE.... YMMV

I am considering the PWD30-EPO-h.
It has bluetooth and phone app so won't require the phone cable. I just thought behind the cover might be a suitable spot for the PWD30 and save pulling out the breaker panel.

There's not enough space "behind the cover" to mount an EMS and, even if you did, there are exposed electrical connectors on the plug. A "metal box EMS" and "exposed electrical connectors" don't play well together, even if you could, somehow "squeeze it in the cavity"....

I have this 2021 250BHS model. I added my EMS from my totaled Airstream. There is enough extra wire to connect the EMS and mount it. Added a couple feet of same gauge from EMS to shore power connection. Not enough space behind the small plastic cover to hide the EMS. On my list to find that solution. So far I’ve had no issues and the progressive industries works as it should.

You as well. 10 gauge. Keystone has universal wiring. There’s a file online that explains it all. We are loving ours. Spent the wkend camping in the rain with friends and had a ball. I removed all my vinyl decals day one and love the look. Plan on keeping and don’t want the maintenance and peeling that will eventually happen. Few other upgrades (maxx fans - 2) new bed, digital lock to name a few. It’s all been easy. Just time and money. -luke

Late on the reply. I already had the GoPower 1500 High Surge inverter from my previous trailer. That is the only reason I added the Xantrex transfer switch . If I was buying new I would likely go with an all in one. I think jasin1 said he went with the Xantrex all in one.

Thanks for the photos. I am thinking of going with the PWD30-EPO-h. I want to get it as it measures actual electricity usage from shore power. Then I intend to use that info to upgrade to a suitable battery bank. I have no idea what electricity we might use but hoping to top it up daily with a generator until we can go solar.

Not yet. I suppose the only advantage of manually doing it I understand is it helps save battery life from the inverter sucking power even when not in use.

Kevin are you asking me? And do you mean the vinyl decals on the TT? I think most people think it’s a sin to remove all the vinyl decals, but when you start thinking long term ownership, they do not make sense. The 250BHS looks sharp IMO with the grey body and black trim. I think it’s silly when I see people camped with all the feature and benefit stickers (like 3yr warranty or Winter package) on their new or older trailer. Have friends who all wish they peeled their now older model trailer decals as soon as they purchased.

I can post a picture of what our specific model looks like after. Sun + vinyl ... only a matter of time till they peel or lose their color. Add the fact I can wash and wax a whole lot faster when I have to do that process.

We used 303 protectant our 22rbswe and will on our new one... 25rdswe. Never seen one with All gone... interesting.. and here I was trying to get these little paper ones off. Ha!

Yes, we have new TT with the OTG package... no switch. Would help two ways, was finding my batteries were not get a good charge with inverter on. You should only put inverter on when needing. If I go out in storage compartment and turn on and off all day, and at night, all works great ugh...

From what I can determine, the Keystone Off the Grid package (standard build, included in all trailers with the package) includes the following:

Dual-port access with solar charger prep located in pass-through storage compartment
Sidewall port access for portable solar panel systems
Inverter prep storage located in pass-through storage compartment
Up to five (5) 110V outlets on every unit are prepped for inverted use with wiring conveniently terminated in the pass-through storage to connect to the inverter when added (The number of inverted outlets varies by brand.)

Then, to that, you can add the following optional package which "puts the guts in the prep package that is standard:

One (1), 170 watt Zamp roof-mounted solar panel, expandable up to 510 watts with aftermarket equipment
One (1), 30 AMP Zamp solar charging system
One (1), 1,200 or 2,000 watt pure sine inverter (varies by brand)

What is NOT included with the package is a storage battery component for the OTG system.

Most RV dealerships have, in the past, opted to install the cheapest, GP 24 battery when they deliver a trailer. That battery is woefully inadequate for even the most basic "dry camping environment"... With the inclusion of the OTG package, dealers may (or may not) be increasing the number of batteries or the amount of battery capacity.... It's entirely the dealership's option to choose which battery to install, so if they are still "cheaping out" then you likely don't have anywhere near the battery capacity to be able to fully use the "rest of the system capability"...

What batteries are in your system by brand and size? They are the "foundation of your solar system and need to be capable of storing and supplying the full capacity of the rest of the system...

I can finally post some pictures. This is the rear compartment near the shore power. I appreciate the suggestions to install a hardwired EMS nearer to the fuse box (and it would be out of the way there but perhaps give off noise?) but I am attracted at how easy it looks to install the EMS like BoCox shows in his photo.

I also need to look at keystone wiring to see what the 3 coloured wires represent unless anyone knows already.

red wire = left turning signal
brown = right turning signal
white = common ground

So finally installed the power watchdog (PWD30-EPO-h) in the rear storage next to the shore power connect.

It connects to the app by bluetooth.
