Prescott, AZ to Texas in January

I've read about some folks freezing their 5ers in New Mexico in January and February. We're scheduled to pick up our new 3750FL in Prescott, AZ mid January, head South to I-10 which will take us through Tucson, and further on, Juarez, NM, then down to the Austin, Texas area. Do we need to be concerned with freezing temperatures along that route in January or February?

If you're trying to drive I-8 out of Prescott to I-10, you'll have more problems than just freezing. ;-)

Hi LARRYM Shouldn't have a problem, should get to the dealear winterized, just like the trailer I have on order also (I HOPE) arriving in January, just dewinterize when you when you get to warmer climate.

We are doing the reverse trip from Atlanta, eventually connecting with I-10 around New Mexico; up thru Tucson and on to Scottsdale. Have reservations for 2 months beginning Feb 1st. :cool:

I am fully winterized and will stay that way until I can eventually get to weather.com and see some good 10 day forecasts. Then I will pick my daily destinations and look up the expected weather. Of course, if you want a "guess" you can target cities and seek "average" highs and lows in key cities along your route. This is no guarantee, but will provide anticipated "anti freeze" needs.

I would not dewinterize until confident in the weather. We travel with food in the refer; etc; and purchase water from Walmart by the gallon. Carrying 5 gallons in the RV allows a lot of flexability...on a late arrival, early departure, we simply heat needed water on the stove. Use paper plates and bowls, plasticware forks, etc and toss them. Use the campground restrooms whenever possible.

As soon as we arrive at our campsite, I turn the furnace on. Keep the family in the truck until RV interior heat level is tolerable, about 20 minutes.

It really is not that big of a deal. Just use common sense.

You're right! I had to zoom out the map some to see that I-8 wasn't tied to I-10 just South of Phoenix.

I have a sister that lives in Sante Fe and she comes back home to Houston at least once a month. She flies when she can but sometimes during the winter J&F the roads on I-10 ice over bad out in the open. It can pretty hairy at times, plus dealing with the snow on the roads. I would just check ahead with the DOT before you enter each state

You may be thinking of I-40 which runs thru Santa Fe.

Santa Fe is roughly 200 miles (stright line), North of I-10 which runs thru Lordsburg, Deming
and then into Los Cruces before going onto El Paso, Tx..
Up there they talk ski season... down here we talk bait and go fishin'
without having to cut holes in the ice (something that cools your drink),
not covers your pond...:wave:

Now, Hankaye, if you and Rascal get a hankering for a ski run, you can stow the fishin' pole and run up to the other side of Alamagorda to Ski Apache! :cool3: Probably get a couple of runs in early in the morning before the slush starts!
