Howdy All;

I just read a thread about someone that just purchased a new unit and sent it directly to storage, do not pass GO and don't collect $200.00.

The question that leaps into the front of my mind is this;

These come with a 1 (ONE), year warrenty. Why waste 5 to 7 months (depending on the length of your winter), of warrenty time ???

Why not purchase in the Spring, find the things that need fixed. Get'em done... enjoy. True ya might loose some time at a campground, but you will have most of the kinks worked out before ya run out of warrenty time and have more and longer times of enjoyment.

sometimes the savings on purchase price in fall make it worth it. we bought ours 3 weeks ago but plan to go to fla. in feb.

We purchased ours after they started getting in the new models and was able to save over $10,000.00 by purchasing a remaining model year they had on the lot. I would consider buying in the fall or possibly winter when dealers are slow and are looking to make a deal. But personally I thing you can get just as good of a deal at model change or at the spring and summer shows.

Same with us. Purchased an '11 floor demo in September at a savings of more than $10K on a $39K trailer.

We got a couple of nice 4 day weekends in before winterizing. It just got put into storage on the 15th of October.

I left a couple of minor things open with the dealer's service department for the spring and they assured me that it would not be an issue to hold off over the winter.

We also bought in the fall of last year. $28K trailer for $17K. Hard not to accept that kind of savings.

As for "wasted warranty" There won't be any. Buy in October, the 12 months ends next October, trailer in storage Oct-May = 7 months storage and 5 months use. Buy in May, trailer in storage in October = 5 months use and 7 months storage.

The only difference is whether you store "upfront" or use "upfront" Actually, with the 12 month cycle, it all works out the same as far as months of use and months of storage.

We just purchased a month ago,a 279 springdale fw.We saved $10000 and they are storing for winter.This way my warranty will start when I pick it up in spring.This was a win win for us. :bdance: :bdance:

i purchased, a used trailer, in end of winter, early spring. sat in storage (other then playing with it on a quick bring home every now and then), untill mid april, and i still managed to get about 8 G's knocked off the price. i think like stated before, don't matter much when you buy it, warranty's will hold out regardless. as long as you can let it sit all winter before "playing" might be worth it in the long run. i could never let anything sit that long. i can hardly wait untill spring already, and its only been in storage for a week.

Ditto for us as well. Bought a 2011 in Sept of 2010 way below original $$. We did get a couple trips out of it and for shakedown we camped at the house.

I understand about the savings.
I'm just courious if you are attempting to get the warrenty 'extended' to cover the time it just sits prior to your being able to use the trailer???

Unless you are fulltiming you are giving up 5-7 months of warrenty on the chance that you will save more than the repairs may cost, should you have any ????? Am I correct in presuming that ???

i think i understand what you are asking, but if you purchase in the spring and get an extened warranty, it would still sit idel for the winter months, you would just find your problems faster. from the options we were given, over a year from them, was for several years over varing pricings. i understand that different places will have different warranty policy's

Hankaye, If we'd have bought in the spring, I doubt the dealer or Keystone would have honored a request to extend our warranty for the winter when we stored it. Same with asking for an extension if bought in the fall. It really isn't an issue whether the trailer sits in storage for 7 months at the beginning of the 12 month warranty or if it sits in storage for 7 months at the end of the 12 month warranty. Either way, in the first 12 months of ownership the trailer will sit in storage 7 of the 12 months and be "in use" for 5 of the 12 months. Doesn't matter if it's bought in Jan, Mar, June, Sep, or Dec. (or the other months) the months of storage and the months of use during the warranty period is essentially the same. Of course, if we lived in FL or southern CA, there wouldn't be any storage (to speak of) and the entire 12 months would be "camping time" Not so in the "frigid Tundra" LOL
