View Full Version : 14 inch or 15 inch rims?

I recently had a blow out of a cheap tire. Through the whole tire changing process I noticed that all three tires were different brands, and there are two 14 inch rims and the spare was on a 15 inch rim.
I have decided to hold out until I can find some GY Endurance tires. The trailer calls for 14 inch tires but the 15 inch fit fine.
Is there any benefit of going to the 15 inch tires, or should I stick with the 14 inch recommended by Keystone?
Thanks.

John, it would be my opinion that there would be no advantage to going to 15" on a small trailer. I would ditch the 15" rim and buy a 14" for a spare. It seems that the Endurance by Goodyear is a good selection.

I agree with Jim. That is a small trailer and I don't see any benefit of moving to the 15" wheels. Might check the weight of the trailer and compare against the load range of the tires on it and make sure they are adequate to carry the weight.

Ditto to Danny and Jim.

You asked a similar question about the tires/wheels on your 2017 trailer in another thread: https://www.keystoneforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=364862#post364862

First, check the Keystone decal on the front roadside corner of your trailer for "OEM tire requirements"... If that decal (printed by VIN) states the tire size is 14", then that's what I'd use. When doing that, based on the three different brand tires that were on it when you bought it, I'd carefully inspect the wheels BEFORE installing new tires. If you're not able to inspect them, then bring the facts to the attention of the tire installer and have them inspect the wheels for you. Chances are, if you don't say anything, they'll just do a "quick cleaning of the rim, lube it and throw the new tires on the rims. They wouldn't suspect any problems unless you tell them the situation....

Going to 15" wheels/tires on a trailer with adequate load reserves is not necessary. Upgrading from 14" LRC to LRD tires will give you a good "safety cushion" on tire capacity.

Might I ask what you'll use for a spare tire?

I will keep the one good 14 tire and rim for spare.

John , your one good one is not suitable as a spare. You need a third For a spare so you can depend on it.
