View Full Version : How to replace inline fuse on tongue jack?

Our Ultra 3002 electric tongue jack quit suddenly and we think the inline glass fuse is blown. Does anyone have a link to instructions or a video on how to access and replace the fuse? We can feel it, but are not sure how to get to it. I'm hoping to get some guidance before we muscle it too much (and probably do damage).

I don’t know much about that make or model of jack, we have a different type. But According to this exploded sheet, that fuse should be inline before the circuit breaker. Where are you “feeling” it?

We can feel the fuse in the cable running from the jack motor to the battery connection, about a foot from the motor. There is a tight rubber "sleeve" over the fuse (I think) and there doesn't seem to be a clear way to pull the sleeve back to access the fuse. This is one of those things that once we see HOW to do it, the doing won't be so difficult!

Most in line glass fuse holders either unscrew ( counter clock wise) or are held together with tabs that you have to push the two ends of the fuse holder together and twist it counter clockwise about a 1/4 turn.

Obviously the schematics are not what the factory wired up since the fuse is in that position. Can you roll that “sleeve” back on itself and down far enough to separate the fuse holder like Flybouy mentioned?

Are you sure that "sleeve" isn't a piece of heat shrink tubing? If it is, you'll have to cut it off to get to the fuse. If it were mine, I'd get a water resistant blade fuse holder and replace the glass fuse holder.

Had that happen to our last camper, cleaned the connection at the battery post and started working.

Thanks everyone. Turns out it's a regular 30 amp fuse that is on the wire between the motor and the battery. It was hiding in plain sight. Changed the fuse and all's well. Still not sure what that lump is that we feel IN the wire that we thought was an inline fuse. That's a problem for another day...

The schematic on the last page of this manual depicts a 20 amp circuit breaker between the 30 amp fuse and the electric motor. I'd guess that "big sealed bump" in the cable harness is probably that circuit breaker...

Why there's a 30 amp "slo-blow fuse" followed by a 20 amp circuit breaker ??? Who knows, but there's got to be some "consideration for preservation of power without blowing the fuse" there somewhere....
