Hi all, just wondering if you have any recommendation on tow vehicles for this 5er. Would an F250 6.7 P.S CC SRW suffice?

Pin weight would be north of 3000#. Check the yellow door sticker. Probably not sufficient. JMO

Well a 41’ 5er with a 12,800# dry weight and a 16,000# GVWR is on the edge of DRW weights.

No possible way a 250 diesel, with a payload barely cracking 2100 lbs can safely handle that. A 350 might, if you get a 2WD stripper model and check the yellow sticker closely. Probably right there at DRW territory.

F250, no way. I'd say F450 or 550, definitely dual rear wheels.

^^^ What they all said.... With an F250, you're at least one truck size too small and probably two sizes too small... That trailer is squarely in dually territory although there's a "slim chance" that some lesser equipped models "might" squeak by barely under the maximum limits...

Definitely 350/3500 dually territory, 450-550 would be overkill.

Flybouy, statements like yours hurt the validity of information shared on this forum. That 5er is about 12,800# dry with a 16,000# GVWR so on the edge of 350/3500 SRW/DRW no reason to go larger that a 350/3500 DRW.

WRONG! I vote he buy a Freightliner! Sorry (can't help myself) but I bet the fella already owns the F250. Why doesn't he check the little tag in his driver door well and check his numbers. He can also google past searches of a similar nature and find that most of the factory stated pin weights are more or less science fiction. Keystone lists pin weight at 2530 lbs and the gross weight of that 41' 5ver is 16K lbs.... 2530? Really? MAGIC! :banghead:

What George said: NOT about the FreightLiner, but about the pin weight.

With a pin weight range of 15 - 25%, at 16,000 pounds, simple math will give you a calculation of 2400 - 4000 pounds.

That said, nearly 90% of trailers fall within the 20 - 22% range. Again, simple math: 3200 - 3520. If you're considering a washer/dryer in that front closet space, you can "guarantee yourself a heavy pin"

While there may be an "occasional zebra" (rarity in North America), the majority of "hoof beats you'll hear are horses".... In other words, chances are very slim that you'll find a zebra (15%) running with the herd around Keystone's range......

Need consider axle ratio also. Your Montana 376FL is 41.33 ft long, 12848 lb dry, 16000 lb GVWR and has a 2530 lb pin weight. My Montana 3780RL is 41 ft long, 13410 lb dry, 16600 lb GVWR and has a 2695 lb pin weight. I pull it with a F350 6.7 PS CC DRW very comfortably.

Well why don't we just say you need a freightliner to pull/carry it!
He doesn't necessarily need an 350/3500 DRW to carry/pull that 5er. Contrary to other statements the 6.7 diesel will PULL that 5er, it just doesn't have the payload to carry it within it's 10,000# (assumed we don't the exact year).

Key specifications - 373RD FIFTH WHEEL

Shipping Weight 12,848#
Carrying Capacity 3,152#
GVWR 16,000#
Hitch 2,530#
Length 41' 4"
Height 13' 4"

So one starts out with a 12,848# dry weight, and a 2,530# pin which is 19.7% or 20% for ease of math. Say they are weekenders, or 2 week vacationers and don't load to full GVWR, say 2,000# of stuff.

Now we have 14,848# and 20% of that is 2,970#, most new 350/3500 SRW have GVWR of 12,200# or so and payloads of 4,000# so that works even at 22% 3,266# it would be snug , but could work.

True a 350/3500 DRW would be a far better TV, but many have issues with DRW, and if it is within numbers then it should be fine.

If loaded to full GVWR of 16,000# and a 22% pin then 3,522# so would need about 4,200# of payload to stay within numbers.

Just to be clear, keeping most of the Yellow sticker can be tricky. Our 2016 Ram 3500 Laramie DRW list a Payload of 5,411# the last time I weighed with Me, DW, the beagle hitch and in bed tool box my truck scaled 10,000# on a GVWR of 14,000# leaving 4,000# for pin on a new 5er.
