Stabilizer Ram Replace

Just got a quote to replace one of the stabilizer Rams on my Carbon 357 toy hauler for approximately $900. Parts. Don't know about labor yet.


Does that sound about right?


Are these Lippert rams rebuildable?


Do these things fail often?



Mine seemed to be leaking from the seal on the rod.

Find your local hydraulic shop or tractor repair they can rebuild them for usually less than $200, they quoted $150 to me. I removed the 3 bolts from the 1" thick piece on the bottom, cleaned it up, turned it one hole off from original position & it stopped leaking.
The factory techs recommended before retracting the jacks to wipe them off.& spray them with a silicone spray with Teflon every time plus if extended for long periods to wipe/spray them & operate them about every 30 days to keep the seals lubricated.

I have no experience with hydrolics but I may have to learn some. Always have wipped the rod with silicone as you stated though.


If I decide to try to tackle this myself, what happens when the hydrolic lines are removed? It seems like it should be under pressure. ? Then what?

I'm not a expert but my common sense tells me to retract the jack first then zip tie the lines to avoid leaking, is not under pressure is like when you change your break shoes in your car.

That's the way to do it.

Form what little bit of fluid residue shown in your pic Id wipe the cylinder down , check the 3 bolts on top of that strut and give them a light snug... one bolt is the banjo fitting bolt

I’d then cycle levelers several times while observing for any leaks. This is an easy Jon to remove the leveler leg..since yours is not one of the Front LG no need to add any extra support to remove and replace.

And I’d have it rebuilt as suggested instead of replacing.. most can be rebuilt as long as the internal piston is not scored too bad
