Leaving for Texas On Friday. Leaving this early onset Minnesota winter behind. My question is if it’s a good idea to run the fireplace for a few days to take the chill off before starting and loading the fridge. I’m plugged into 50 amp so power is not a problem. Should be out of freezing temperatures about 5 hrs. After leaving home. Thanks in advance

The inside temp of the trailer isn't as important as the ambient temp outside where the cooling unit is. I don't deal with real low temps, but I would think running it on LP would keep it working. Ill wait for a member that lives in those temps reply.

If you're concerned with the refrigerator ammonia system being "frozen". It's not. That said, there is a small LP flame or an electric heating element that "boils the ammonia" to cause the evaporation/condensation cycle that causes the refrigerator "interior to get cold".... In extremely cold weather, there's not enough BTU's produced by that little LP flame or the electric element to "boil" the ammonia, so the refrigerator will not get cold inside or will not function well enough to freeze the freezer AND cool the refrigerator sections.... In other words, it's "too cold behind the refrigerator to get it to work"... Sometimes adding a drop light with a 60 watt bulb in it is enough heat to warm the area in the "refrigerator chimney area"... Usually, that's not a problem, but when it's below about 15F, RV evaporation refrigerators just don't work well....

Once you get above about 30F, it should work without problems on either LP or electric.

WARM THE INTERIOR BEFORE YOU PLUG IN THE TV'S OR TURN ON THE MICROWAVE !!!!!!! You can destroy an LED or LCD TV if you power up your trailer and a TV is plugged in, whether it's turned on or not doesn't matter. The electronics circuits are powered up if the TV is plugged in and you apply shore power to the RV.....
