Bucket list trip for my better half, PEI. We're in central NJ and plan on a three week trip in Aug to PEI, thank you Ann of Green Gables. Our long trips have been to Fla. in the winter months. I think the worst of the ride will be getting north of Boston. I'm concerned about steep hills and long days, 300+ miles.
Thank you in advance,
Paul

Don't worry about any toll for the bridge going to PEI. :rolleyes:They only charge you when you leave.:D At least that's the way it was a few years ago

Traffic-wise, I would suggest heading North on I-87 and then East on I-90 to I-95. You will get a few hills on 90 but after that it is pretty easy. Just follow 95 (relatively flat and straight) all the way to Canada. We did a PEI trip for our Red Knights Motorcycle Club a few years ago. Now that we have a little one, we are planning a camping trip through the maritime provinces this summer. So much to do and see! Like Hornet28 said, getting there is free, but you have to pay to leave the island.

If I might be allowed to put a 'damp' blanket on this joy-fest for a moment: We have visited PEI both in summer and winter (No, I don't know exactly why in winter), both on bike and in our truck. Not to sound too harsh, but two weeks on PEI would be a fate worse than death. I'm not saying to avoid the province, but things to entertain families beyond the 'beaches' will be difficult to find.

We totally agree with that! Back in the 70’s we did a family vacation that incorporated PEI (we were kids at that time) and the ferry was the only way on or off the island. We spent a week on the island and the other two weeks of our trip in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. The Cabot Trail, Bay of Fundy, Flower Pot Rocks. PEI was nice, but a week is about the limit.

Hadn't thought about that route. I'll be checking out campgrounds along that route, thanks again.
