We have a new 2019 Cougar 315RLS

Can you remove one of the propane bottles and the heat will work?
First time out and learning curve is huge!

Yes, there should be an "automatic change over" valve/regulator.

Welcome to the forum!!
As Marshall said, yes you can. If there is a switchover lever, I would suggest pointing it to the cylinder your using. It’s NOT supposed to allow flow out the other side but better safe than sorry.

Unless the Acme nut is fully tightened to the valve on the propane cylinder, gas will not flow because there is a part that depresses a valve that needs to be depressed. This will keep propane from exiting the pigtail when you remove the cylinder. I have found, if the cylinder is empty and the regulator has already switched to the other cylinder, there is no residual pressure in the pigtail. If I manually switch the regulator selector over to the other cylinder and then remove the pigtail after closing the cylinder valve, there will be a little puff of gas until that valve closes. In this photo, you can see the part that depresses to stop gas flow, and also the springloaded ball that is the excess flow valve that will stop most of the gas to flow if you open the cylinder valve too fast.

If it’s all working correctly, I agree 100 percent.

The idea is when one tank runs out it switches over to the other one you can remove the empty tank and fill it at your leisure. There should be an indicator on the switch over valve that goes from green to red when it's switched. This lets you know the tank you have the valve pointing to is empty. Just flip the valve over to point towards the full tank you are pulling from and the process starts over.

Some have a circle in the front with a rotating "dial" inside".
