View Full Version : Good Bye to our Rig

Linda & I have decided to leave our RVing years behind us. We have sold our rig. It was like family. Both were purchased new. The Everest (38’ - three slides) in 2003. The truck, a 2004 Dodge dually fully loaded long bed with auto trans and 4.10 gearing. We traveled to all of the lower 48 states and 5 CDN provinces with that rig. The truck never failed. The trailer had numerous upgrades. However, except for tire failures the original running gear including brakes and axles were still with it when sold. Even the original cast aluminum wheels.

We are 77 & 80 years old and celebrated our 61st wedding anniversary on October 4th. We are both still active but the medical issues are piling-up making traveling far from home very difficult.

Last year on our 60th we took a sea cruise. This year we visited the Mississippi gulf coast. This weekend we are going to travel up the Blue Ridge parkway to Cherokee, NC and hopefully see the great color changes in the forests. Our new ride is a Honda Ridgeline. Can you believe it, a front wheel drive truck. It's built on a Pilot chassis and rides and handles just like the Pilot.

The following picture was taken at Helena, GA. The parking there is good and the shops and restaurants are very reasonable.

The Eagle has landed!!!! Best wishes. Chris

Did I ever tell you why I used FastEagle?

During my years in the Navy I served with Fighter Squadron 41 two times. The last time with them I worked on the flight deck as the squadron's flight deck maintenance coordinator. As such, I and all other squadron coordinators had two way encrypted radios strapped to sides. My call sign was FastEagle.

Good luck in your next adventures. Your postings were a good resource for me as a new RV owner "wet behind the ears". I'd suggest hanging out here every once in while to help keep the knowledge base fresh. Congrats on your 61st wedding anniversary.

Congratulations on 61 years of marriage! Linda looks none the worse for wear, you on the other hand? (just kidding). Looks like a lot of years still to go.
I joined this forum 6 years ago and have learned an immense amount of knowledge from your factual and interesting posts.

As Roy and Dale used to say "Happy Trails to you".:flowers:

Cal, congrat's on the 61st. I'm kinda like Joe; Momma's looking pretty good, but you need to pick it up a little! Nah, not really...somebody gave the advice a few posts ago to never stop planning, VERY good advice.

Thank you Cal for the help you gave to me when I first got my 26RBPR and was considering new tires. I am thinking just because you have retired the rig you are still planning on commenting and giving advice? After all you are kinda famous or infamous on this list. Carrie and I are only at 45 years and we look like we have been run hard and put away wet compared to you two!
Oh, I like the looks of the new ride.

Actually we are considering the Nest for our short (3-5 day) trips to FL or the Gulf Coast.

We also like up-state NY along the St. Lawrence, where the fishing is GREAT.

I can't imagine my self saying goodbye to RV. Probably I would not sell my rv and just place it in our backyard and maybe stay there for an overnight just to think of the past.

We also are celebrating our 61st wedding anniversary. We are 83 and 80 and have been RVing for 56 years. But I did not know quitting was an option. I thought it was like marriage. Both are a lifetime commitment. We camped on the Blue Ridge Parkway in July and at Smokemont near Cherokee in September. Lots of luck in your new endeavor.

We just came back from Cherokee. It's colorful at this time of year, we go every October, our anniversary month. We were 19 & 16 when we got married making us 80 & 77, a little younger than you guys.

We looked at the Bambi Airstream 10-12 years ago at the Ft Worth RV show, the "show price" was over $48k for a 16' RV!!!! I told the sales person that recycled aluminum beers can prices must be way up to charge that kind of money for 1/2 a RV, he didn't thinking it was funny.
Can't imagine, didn't open the link, the price on the tiny ones shown above that you'd have to go outside to change your mind.

We drove from Missouri to Pete's RV in Indiana. We traded the 2016 Heritage Glen travel trailer for our new 5th wheel cougar. The people at Pete's RV could not have been nicer and everything went great. We left Friday morning and then on the way home spent the night at a KOA and got a good night's sleep. Everything works great, I will have to get used to the electronic pad that does everything, lights, slides, havoc, awnings, ect.

From one dislocated Mainer family to another, all the best to you and your DW.

And best wishes with your new TV and Nest. Maybe our paths will eventually cross on the backroads.
