I've doing some pre-winter maintenance and cleaning of my coach and noticed that the silicone sealant around some of the clearance lights, corner trims pieces, and storage bay doors is showing its age. I'm looking at stripping/removing the factory silicone around these joints and re-applying a better product.

Been doing some research. Is a flexible polyurethane or SMP sealant like Sikaflex 221 or OSI Quadmax a better alternative than 100% silicone? Suggestions on something that will last longer than what's on there now?

Sikaflex is also an adhesive. We use it when installing slide topper brackets, and it’s got some serious strength to it so I wouldn’t use it. I would look for pro seal.

Is this the stuff CHuck?

If it is, it's a bit pricey at $42 per tube.

I don’t recognize the tube, we don’t use it probably because if that’s what the cost is...WOW!! I see trailers from Cruiser RV come from the factory with that being used. Lots of others still use silicone, like we do in the shop.

Lots of posts about silicone not sticking to silicone and I agree it won’t, but I use denatured alcohol to clean the surface and re apply silicone to a fresh surface and it seems to work. YMMV

On edit: it’s still early. I may have had the name wrong. Try this:

I found a 'Pro flex' sealant made by Geocel. More than a few online reviews from RV techs recommend it. Anyone use this before?

$8.99 a tube.

Looks like you were looking as I was typing. It sticks good, and from personal experience isn’t that easy to remove.

Some good reviews here regarding Pro Flex.

This may be the ticket.

I recently used pro flex RV by geocell and it sticks very well. I would tape off the edges with painters tape (and remove the tape while the caulking is wet) so you get a sharp, clean line. Once it goes on, you can’t really smooth it out or clean it up.

Thanks Mike for your thoughts on Pro Flex. I have a tube on the way now from Amazon.
