Using the control panel tried to retract a slide out. Half way in it stopped. I was able to get it all the way in by pushing it. Then using the control panel tried to extend A different slide.. it wouldn’t move ... sounded like the motor was humming . I then used the remote and everything worked fine. Any ideas of what’s wrong?

There have been several different types of slide mechanisms and at least 4 different types of remote control units (all work differently) in the past 8 or 10 years. What year, brand and model of trailer, what type remote control unit and what kind of slide mechanism? I've got several "probable" causes and fixes, but depending on what you have, no need to spend hours explaining something that's not even on your trailer..... Help us help you !!!!

Hello JRTJH! I was searching the forum for info regarding a problem I'm having and came across this old post. We have a 2011 Cougar 327RES. 3 slides and the landing gear and awning work fine from the remote, but won't work from the control panel. The landing gear won't work from the outside switch. I hear no humming (as reported by the author of the orig. post on this thread. I have contacted the mftr of the panel, KIB, they said call Keystone. BTW the other switches on the panel, (water, lights, battery and tanks) work fine. Keystone says "take it to an authorized repair shop". But can you give me any advise? Thanks!

This is a SWAG (scientific wild a** guess)…

In the early remote control systems, there is a safety interlock to prevent damaging the system. That interlock is in the "remote control receiver" mounted in the front passthrough, not in the hand held remote transmitter.

The way that interlock works is to "disable the switches on the control panel when the remote transmitter is used to activate a function"... It will remain "disabled until the remote transmitter completes the cycle"...

In other words, if you turn on a light with the remote, the control panel switch for that light will not work until you turn off the light with the remote....

Same with slides, awnings, front landing gear. If you use the remote to extend the slide, the interlock in the remote receiver will "lock out the control panel switch for the slide" until you pull the slide with the remote transmitter. Same with the awning, same with any other function on the remote handheld transmitter....

Through the years, LCI changed/modified some of the functions to eliminate the lock out for some of the connections. One year it might work with switch or remote with no difference and the next year that function might not work... in other words, there has been very little standardization in how the safety features of the remote system were wired (by Keystone) or built (by LCI)…

So, my suggestion would be to prepare the trailer for towing (pull in the slides, awning, turn off all lights, etc) with the remote. Then try the control panel switches... Hopefully they'll work. If they don't, then you'll need to do a reset of the remote system. Don't do that unless ABSOLUTELY necessary because many dealers don't have techs around that remember how to set them up again and if you reset it, you'll have to completely reprogram it. Without someone that knows how to do it, it could put you into a "never did work right and won't even turn on now" situation....

Try using the remote to get the trailer in the "ready to tow" condition and then try the control panel switches.

If all else fails and you have to reprogram the remote here is a link to the various remotes and control units;

This is a link to the programming of one type of remote; you would need to determine which one yours is and find those instructions. This one is easier than the one I had;

JRTJH, Didn't work, but thanks! Trying to deal with it with LCI......again.
