new holes for bike rack

My trailer has the slide out bike rack took the spare off put in basement.
I like the idea of drilling new holes to shorten the rack,the problem
is my trailer is in storage and i don't know what size the hole should
be.
So Festus2 its up to you to help me out please,I want to take the right
size drill bit to the trailer you have done this so I would appreciate
your help

The existing holes are 5/8" and use a 1/2" pin. If you want to use the same pins that are there now, I would suggest using a 5/8" drill if you have one that size.
Since I did not have a 5/8" drill, I used a 1/2" drill for the holes and bought two 3/8" pins of the same type but smaller diameter than the ones that came with the rack.
In my situation, I drilled the holes 6 inches away from the existing holes. I can shove the sliding rack in 6 in and have just enough room to mount 2 bikes. But you can drill them wherever it works out best for you. The location of the holes will depend upon what you usually place on the rack.
As you have probably already found out, removing and replacing these pins is very awkward - certainly not easy-to-get-at.

thanks for the quick reply,I also just have two bikes I might try to find
a 5/8 bit to fit my 3/8 drill if not I will go with the 3/8 pin thanks again.

Before you drill any holes, I would suggest mounting the two bikes on the rack, push it in as far as possible so that there is a bit of clearance between the bike pedals/bike and the back of the RV, THEN mark where the new holes should be drilled.
