Was just on Pilot/FlyingJ website.
Price of DEF in these stops where available on island $2.60/$2.84 Gal.
Local Ford Dealer
Oil change & fill DEF tank $250.00 ???????? Ripoff, haven't talked to GM dealer yet. But Ford did stretch change to 10.000 miles.
Dodge wanted $106plus to do my Ram.
Bought $48.00 of oil Tractor Supply and a filter at Cummins $12.50 Did it myself.
Mopar was too expensive.
They also want to charge disposal fee. Safety Kleen buys the used oil from dealers at $.07 a gal.
You can take oil to Advance Auto, or Autozone and get rid of it.

Just changed the oil in my truck. I've been using Shell Rotella Synthetic. 3 gallons of oil and a filter runs me around $90.00 and I've been changing it about every 7,000 miles. I take used oil to auto parts store and they don't charge anything. The dealership wanted well over $200.00 for an oil change using synthetic oil.

When filling with DEF be careful not spill it on your truck as it is very corrosive. If some spills wipe it off with a damp cloth or hose it down. The capacity BTW is 5 gallons for GMC trucks:wave:

I just changed the oil in my Dodge 3500 series Cumminga at the Dodge dealership in Eugene, OR last wee and it was $69.95. That included ckecking all 6 tire pressures, brake pads and all fluids.

I did not consider thisa bad deal.

I have been buying DEF at walmart in North Dakota and Minnesotta when I have been there for 11.97, 2.5US gal jug .I consider cost of def per fill dirt cheap and a non issue. I have never figured out cost per mile for DEF. I will and post. It will come in the .01 or less per mile range.

Exactly! I figure it's an extra $5 every 1000 miles. I don't understand why everyone is so upset by this.

We consider it the stupidest thing ever thought of for the automotive industry and nothing more than a money grab!

If you know about the recent developments with diesel emissions systems within the last 5 years, the DEF is a pretty good idea.

They are meeting the new emissions guidelines while not losing fuel economy numbers traditional diesels have been known for. The Diesel Particulate Filter equipped engines inject extra fuel downstream into the exhaust to burn off the excess soot. This extra fuel made for a 20% DECREASE in MPG numbers.
The few $ spent on DEF at oil change is far less than the money lost from wasted fuel.

This is not an auto industry "money grab". The HD trucks have been developing the DEF systems for a few years alongside the DPF systems to meet the government guidelines.

If anyone is to blame, it would be the federal government for implementing such ridiculous standards in the first place.
