Hi all,

My wife and I are thinking of doing an extended trip (2 or 3 months) out West this winter instead of our normal trek down to Florida.

We have a 37 foot Cougar 5th wheel.

Looking at the map, however, I guess it's unreasonable to think that we can get to warm weather, safe from ice and snow, and travel all the way to New Mexico or Arizona.

Does anyone have experience in winter travel along the southern part of the USA border -- and if so, where might be some good places to stop and enjoy?

Thanks ahead of time.

Bob, you already know you can't escape the state of Virginia and make it to I-40, I-20 nor I-10 without some risk of bad weather. I-40 is a risk that time of year almost the entire distance. I-20 cuts your odds down some, but I-20 certainly is no guarantee, especially through the state of Texas. I-10 brings you about 500 miles out of the way, but is a fairly safe bet once you get close to the gulf. Looks like about a 7-10 day trip. It is certainly one that Brenda and I would look forward to. Good luck in your travels!
