Power Solera awning manual retraction

I wanted to practice manually retracting my electric awning in case I ever had battery problems. However, I cant seem to get the 7/16" socket into the hole. Any suggestions?

It seems rare that the 7/16 head is centered, so maybe a thin wall socket?
