Carlisle Tires

My 2019 Cougar 5th wheel came with RoadStar or something similar
tires. Picked up a nail in the side wall of one while in California last Nov.

Went to local Discount Tire and they had one Carlisle tire as a replacement.

Tire size is ST225/75/R15 117M E1 BSB Radial Trail HD

Without going to the RV storage yard to look, I believe the remaining
tires are D rated.

My other three tires have about 6K miles on them and we are going
on a 3K round trip from Colorado to Michigan in June.

I am planning on replacing my remaining stock tires with 3 more of
the Carlisle tires.

Good/Bad choice? Open to comments and opinions.

Good choice based on other comments. The 2019 might have the E rated tires already. If you have the D rated tires, you might want to double check the rims and valve stems to make sure they will handle the higher PSI. I believe the E1 tires are 80 PSI versus 65 PSI on the D1 tires. In general, the weight rating stamped on the rims should also match the carrying capacity of the tires which for the 117 load index is about 2830 lbs.

Carlisle are an excellent choice. Something to consider... in addition to the other comments about D vs. E rating and weights, is have the Carlisle tire they put on last year moved to your spare, and then get 4 new tires as your main tires. That way you're rid of the old tires completely. Nothing worse than having a failure (nail, tear, blowout) to then have your spare fail too.

The stock tires are also 80 psi tires so yes they should be E's too. I'll look the
next time I am at the storage lot.

Thank you all for the reply's, the Carlisle tires are a fair priced tire at $148.00
each out the door with the tire warranty.

Not entirely relevant, but the 4 Carlisle tires on my snow blower are now 18 years old, they still hold air with no issues - have to top them up every 4 or 5 years, have zero cracks, and look as good as the day they were installed.


If they build trailer tires that well, I'm all in when it comes time to change them on my Passport 2670BH...

I went to Carlisle after my Maxxis' timed out. Very happy with them. Also put them on the double axle boat trailer, and my little utility trailer.
Check WalMart.com for their price. I'm seeing them for $115. Online only, delivered to your store. They mounted mine for free.

I've been dealing with DT for many years and I am happy with their service.

I agree use the odd one as a spare & buy 4 new ones. Check the date codes closely to insure they've not been sitting on a shelf for a year, be sure to have new metal valve stems installed & balancing them is not a bad idea either.

+1 for balancing. After we bought our trailer after every trip there were numerous skirt screws and some other screws that kept backing out of the trailer. That all stopped after tire balancing. 6 or 7 more trips since and not a single misbehaving screw...

We haven't mentioned trailer tire balancing lately. Lot's of new posters.

A high percentage of RV trailer wheels are fitted to the axles by the lug centric method vice the hub centric method.

If you are walking your wheels in to a tire retailer for balancing, you need to tell them the method to use for your wheels. Most of them will have the standard hub centric balancing equipment which uses the cone. A well equipped tire retailer will have the lug centric adapter on hand.

With our little trailer and a G rated tire at 4400 lbs, I would only need one tire. :)
