I have been researching and read the threads on grill recommendations here but have not been able to find info on a particular question.

I do like the Weber Q as it has a domed lid so a chicken can be roasted. I currently have a 15 year old Coleman Roadtrip grill and I replaced the burners this past summer. My issue is finding a grill that will maintain a lower temperature such as 225-250 deg for low and slow cooking. My Roadtrip will not go below around 325 deg. This grill will also have to be able to go to a high temp like 600 deg.

The reason I want something with that capability is that I like to do a reverse sear on steaks. I cook it low and slow until around 125 deg internal temp, take it off and while it is sitting, I get the grill up to around 600-700 deg. While resting the steak will rise in temp about another 10 deg. When grill ready, steak goes back on for 1-2 min per side and comes off nicely charred with a medium rare interior.

I also don't want to deal with the charcoal while camping so a charcoal grill is not being considered. I do all my grilling on a large Green Egg at home.

As a fellow Egger, I have a Weber as well as a couple pellet grills,I must say the Weber would be good, I take my Trager on the road and don't have any issues searing and I can low and slow cook.19972

Any chance you can get a Weber Q up to 700 degrees would be a foreign thought. I have one sitting here in Clewiston and if you would like it just come on by and it is yours. It is and always has been a fourth class piece of crapola!

For camping I bought a Nepoleon table top grill. The regulator was easy to remove for direct connection to the camper prophane quick connect. It is a little pricy but the quality is great. Good luck!

I'm not sure what the answer is for your situation. Wanting such an extreme in temps, with a traveling grill, may prove to be difficult to solve.

I had the Coleman NexTrip and loved the versatility plus the 2 10k burners. I did not like the inability to "turn it down" and the fact that it always wanted to flare. I gave it away last spring while at this campground - it was 2 seasons old.

After many posts and lots of research I bought a Weber Q2200 for this trip. It's been a lot of trouble. I thought it would be nice but worried about the 12k burner for that size grill - it turned out that was a valid concern. I have not tried cooking a whole chicken but that might be something it is good at, but, I would just as soon go to town and get one precooked and seasoned for 4.98. After that it's just cooking flat stuff, and, don't open the lid; it will take quite a while for the heat to get back up to speed.

All that to say, for me, I'm sure there is a better answer out there. At home I have what we call "BBQ Central" that is built in the backyard with several grills, smokers etc. You can cook about what you want, when you want and how you want. I've not found that combination for camping. I'm afraid a Q won't get you there either, especially with the wide range of cooking temps and uses you propose. Also, you have to remember that, for us anyway, big grills are just not on the menu for traveling all over. They need to be as compact as possible and perform as many functions as possible within reason. I'm hoping you have luck but I'm afraid you'll be like me and just leave one somewhere at the end of every camping season.

I've never found any "one grill" that will do it all well. Just as a 2" paint brush won't paint a fence as well as an 8" brush, neither will it paint fingernails as well as a 1/8" brush. Trying to find "one to do it all well" just isn't in the cards... You can find "one to do it all" but "not well".....

At home, I've got one grill for "general cooking", one charcoal grill for "specialty cooking", a smoker for "slow cooking" and a small propane grill for "throwing something on when we don't have time and don't want the hassle".... RVing, we just don't have space to "do it all and have a grate for cooking over the fire and a little propane grill for "making do until we get home".... YMMV

Sorry, I managed to bad-mouth the Q grill but made no recommendation for an acceptable choice. We have since purchased a Smoke Hollow Vector grill from Camping World which works just fine. It is deep enough to do a chicken and will get plenty hot. It was on sale for $169 when we bought it earlier this year.

The Vector looks like a nice little grill!
I bought this cheap one from Big 5 (cheaper than CW at the time).

It will get to 600F no problem or I able to turn down low. Be aware the burner is a U shape so the side with the "U" stays much hotter. I like it for a cheaper grill. I tend to abuse my camping grills and its holding up nicely. I also like that this model has a warming rack, which many this size do not.

I am liking the reviews and specs on the Vector grill. Have you connected it directly to the gas line quick connect on the camper?

We have not. We travel with a 20# tank and that’s what we use.

Have read references to regulators and having to remove them. It actually doesn't matter how many are in the system as long as they deliver 6 oz. (11 in. water column) to the bbq.

My wife and I have been using the Coleman Road trip grill for 3 years now. We were also disappointed in not being able to grill at lower temperatures when needed. Last year , the DW discovered that after lighting the grill, you can turn the knob slowly toward the off position and adjust to a low flame. Happy campers now. Try It!

Hi, have had the Coleman turned way down and had trouble maintaining not only a low temp but also maintaining a flame.

I'm a new RV owner and full disclosure I sell Pampered Chef. Even if I didnt I'm still planning to get this Indoor/Outdoor Portable Grill.
http://bit.ly/rvgrill

Here's why:
- No charcoal required...but it works with or without (electric or charcoal)
- 15½" wide; 16" tall. 13¼" square cooking surface fits up to 9 burgers
- Temperature controllable.
- Safety features include a locking lid, stay-cool handle, and nonslip legs.
- Easy to clean

First off...not from Texas. I live in Texas but I'm from Maryland. And no matter what you buy, it's all about the cooking. ;>)
