I have a Keystone Montana 3791 41 footer, I am looking for a set of tires for it. I have the original tires (Trailer king st235 80 R16) about 2years old and 20000 miles on them. I am looking for a new set so if anyone can comment on whats the best set let me know.

I put Goodyear Endurance on my 2014 Laredo 346RD. The Trailer King ST235/80R16 that came on my unit started separating at 10,000 miles on the tires. I continually monitor and checked pressure. Even used a Tire Minder monitoring system. I'd recommend the Endurance because they are made in the USA. Plus when I'm towing my FW I can really feel the difference.

Endurance, Carlisle's, Maxxis, Sailun in no order are the top recommendations on the forum. Endurance is still rather new so the jury is still out on longevity.

With the size and weight of your fifth wheel I’d run nothing less than G rated 14 ply tires...

TK tires in my opinion are one of the worst on the road..

I’d recommend Sailun S637 235/85 x 16 as an affordable upgrade that in my opinion is as good or better than GY G614 tires...

I currently run a Les Schwab Geo Star 14 ply G rated tire on my 12K fifth wheel.. four seasons of use and I’m not even thinking of new tires yet..

Proper air pressure ...common sense towing speed.. and covered when not rolling will get you best life out of tire

If you go to the "Tires,Tires,Tires" forum on this site you can read posts on tires until you need glasses or go blind. If you want to save time, Chip's advice is spot on but you will hear many opinions on changing over from ST to LT tires.

I replaced the Trailer King tires a couple of years ago with the Sailun ST235/80R16 and have been very pleased with them. I will buy them again when the time comes.

I picked up a set of 4 Carlisles at Sam's Club. $96 each. $15 per tire for mount, balance, flat repair, etc. With tax around $500.

I would also suggest the Sailuns, I'm super happy with mine, they are a seriously beefy tire. Also, if you want to stay with the OEM size, they are available in 235/80R16 (that's what I have).

Be careful. The Trailer King ST235/80R16 LREs are rated at 3520#. The GY Endurance, same size and load range are rated at 3420# and do not qualify for fitment on 7000# certified axles. There are a lot of new brands out there and half of them are building the ST235/80R16 with a load range "F". The LRF will provide much more than the recommended 10% load capacity above axle rating. And, it's the same designated size and uses the same load inflation chart as the LRE.

If you want to stay with a tire with the same diameter and your wheels are rated to 110 lbs inflation, then the Sailun ST235/80R16G would be a great choice for a replacement tire. If you have clearance for a slightly larger diameter then the Sailun ST235/85R16G are also a good choice. Both of these are steel ply carcass offerings(AKA All Steel Ply tires). Chris

Suggest you look at the Montana Owners Forum
You’ll find lots of good information there about these heavy trailers.

Where are you getting your Sailuns at? I don’t see any retailers or tire chains that carry them around me.

Yes they are maid in China but you will likely find all tires large enough for your unit are made there. These are not China bombs. I love them and the cost is really reasonable.

Yeah I’ve found them online but I’d like to buy local Incase I have any issues. A while ago I bought some tires from tire rack and discovered I had received a bad tire. It was a cluster you know what just dealing with it. I’ll hit up some local tire shops and see what they say.

Sorry to hear you had problems. I assume the St235/80R16 were LR-E. Did you always run 80 psi cold? What was your actual scale weight? What is the published GAWR?

Were the Sailun LR E, F or G?
What inflation do you run?
What is your GAWR and your scale tire loading?

G.

100 psi. The Sailun chart shows a tire load limit of 3860 @ 100.

7K x 2 and last time across the scale it was 12,720 lbs. If my math is correct that averages 3180 per tire from 3860 leaves me with a 680 pound cushion.

Actually, for the RV trailer, the correct tire inflation pressures come from the trailer manufacturer.

The minimum, by regulation, is for the tires to provide an inflation pressure equal to the load capacity the OE tires provided.

The new minimum would be for the tires to provide a load capacity 10% above the vehicle certified GAWRs or what the trailer manufacturer recommended, if above the 10%. Your 3860 is just a few lbs above that 10% axle recommendation.

Looks like a typo on size. If not, it would not fit under very many trailers.

What I did notice trying to find it was that ONYX makes and 15" all steel tire that some might be interested in.

The first one of these I saw was the Tow Master about 6-8 months ago. I posted somewhere in tires-tires-tires. Once a China tire builder starts something the others are close behind. I wonder if GY will convert their G614 to a steel ST? Their polyester 255 is 33" tall. Probably a little too tall for trailers not speced for 33". Some Keystone models have problems with the 31.7"tall tires.

Probably no need to do that. The G614 seems to be at it's limit regarding load carrying ability at 3750 lbs. Those that have pushed it close to that number are the one's that experienced failures.

GY's solution for a higher rated tire for a trailer is their G114 17.5 offering.

Are you trying to surprise me? Goodyear has invented a new ST Endurance tire size and stuck with the polyester design. it's the ST255/85R16 LRE rated at 4080# @ 80 PSI.

Before Sailun decided to build the steel ST235/85R16 LRG, they had built the GY knock-off LT235/85R16 LRG, same specs as the G614.

Westlake builds the ST235/85R16 LRG polyester and rates them at 4080# @ 110 PSI.

Look at my previous post. Greenball has a serious error in that reference. They have 129 "single" load index for two different designated size tires. They list one as 4400# and the other a 4080#. It's one of the main reasons I always want sidewall verification. If they actually have the 129 on that 4400# tire sidewall, sooner or later they will have to recall every one of them because of maximum load capacity error.

I have seen similar issues with stated load capacity and Load Index numbers. A picture of the loads and tire DOT sent to NHTSA should get action unless the tire mfg has petitioned NHTSA for an exception.
