Florida pan handle

We had planned a week stay in Jan 2019 at Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park. Due to the hurricane our reservations were canceled. We were able to book a week at Rock Crusher Canyon RV Resort - got the last site. Guess we will try St. George Island again in 2020.

After Rock Crusher we will spend 4 nights at Coastal Georgia RV Resort. Had planned to stay at Jekyll Island State park but I think the sites would be hard to get into with a 36' fifth wheel.

After that we spend Feb and March at Myrtle Beach Travel park.

The coldest weather I have ever experienced was in Pensacola FL. I live in the Pacific Northwest but I have never experienced an ambient temperature of 8°F with -30° wind chill as I did on Christmas eve 1984. I've been in -20°in Idaho but at those temperatures the air is very still and is somewhat tolerable. There is no shelter at those temperatures when the wind blows.

I can run around our mountain home in 12" of snow and 10 degrees and be perfectly comfortable. Here, although the temps may only get to 30-40 at night, I freeze in the afternoon. If the wind is blowing it is like a knife that cuts through your clothing. Unfortunately, I never bring my heavy stuff; seems like silliness in FLORIDA! As you say, I've been in minus weather a lot but it is just not the same without the humidity (I guess).

As far as St. George, I would do some research before going. I did not take the bridge over the other day but there is so much damage everywhere else I don't know how long it will take to repair it. I do know I had heard as the hurricane came in that St. George took a pretty good hit.

When my daughter moved away from the mountain town where we all lived and then moved to FL we determined that we would buy a nice home where they had moved (Panacea/St.Marks). That didn't work; the insurance, building requirements, insurance, lack of property restrictions and on and on made us throw that idea out. Now we have the RV to be close.

In your situation, IMO, you are considering a good thing. I'm in Tallahassee multiple times a week - I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I know many places are much worse, but, my goal is that I'm never in any of those places. I like quiet and laid back.

Sorry, yes, I meant the only hill I've ever seen in Florida was a garbage dump. It's a fairly flat part of the planet.

Thanks. It is fairly flat but I've seen hills around FL that aren't "garbage dumps" so just wanted to clarify. My daughter and family would have been upset to think they were living in a "garbage dump". :facepalm:

Florida is the flattest state of our 50 states. Sorry, Kansas is only 7th. Maybe we could use the term "landfill" rather than "garbage dump." Keep in mind we can't use the term blind, deaf, nor bald anymore. Visually-impaired, hearing-impaired and hair-impaired are now the proper references.

I propose that Florida be referred to as "hill-impaired."

With all the hurricane damage debris of late there are going few more high points created or maybe just filling sink holes.

You might check-out Coastline RV Resort & Campground. I have a friend who has a site there and he really likes it and they came through the hurricane with minimal damage.

Our stay at Rock Crusher Canyon RV Resort has been good. Nice sites and the park is well maintained. Not a "beach" area but there are allot of places worth seeing in the area. Three sisters park has been the beast area for viewing the Manatees.
