2nd truck, no trailer yet?

Holy Cow! We started out thinking a small Cougar... then a Montana HC again small... now a 41.5 foot Montana 3811MS. So my great deal on a SRW 3500 just got traded on a DRW 3500. Crazy right? But reading enough posts to know that we are not going to even think about doing the truck or 5W compromise and rebuy (again), I pulled the trigger. lol

Oh well, truck this year 5W next year when we retire...

Congrats. I’ve seen lots of customers pick up their brand new fiver, and then bring in a new truck a week later for a hitch install after realizing they didn’t have as much TV as they thought. IMO your doing it the right way.

The answer seems to always be a 1-ton DRW Diesel, anything less and you will eventually trade up lol

I know I quickly wished I had just gone straight there. Oh well, will get a few good years out of this one before I trade up :)

Good on you!! Although you've bought 2 trucks and still don't have the trailer at least you didn't buy the trailer and then cause yourself, family and others a lot of worry because you had too much for the truck and THEN go buy the truck. Good luck in picking out the trailer that will work for you and your family - sounds like you can pick just about what you want now!

lol... I was trying to avoid that. Then my wife said "Well lets buy the smaller 5W " and I thought no way, that would mean a 2nd truck and a 2nd 5W! lol

It wasn't long after we bought our 2500 hd and started camper shopping that we had bought the wrong truck.

Already on our second DRW and don't miss having four wheels on my daily driver.

I went from a Tundra to a 7.3L SRW to a 6.7L DRW. I bought the dually before the big toy hauler thankfully.

Good choice. It’s good that you didn’t try to justify how you could tow with an undersized truck. It seems like a lot if people do that.

I tried to do my research before I bought either. We had made the mistake (for us) of buying a gas class A in 2015. We listened to older couples from our old camping group and it was not the best choice for us.

Finally sold the MH’s last April and in May bought my truck, a 2012 Dodge Ram 3500 4x4 4 door short bed diesel with 46k on it.

A slider hitch works great in the 6.5 bed.

The main reason for the srw short bed was so it would fit in my garage, we get snow and hail here in Colorado.

Now the 5th wheel shopping was fun. I had to rein in my wife a little on the size.

We finally settled on a Keystone Cougar 30 RSL at 34 feet.

I would have saved myself some grief and some money if I did my research like you did. I started out with an F150 eco boost and upgraded to a diesel F250 a year later. Live and learn.
