I think he just got wrapped up in the moment and figured when all else fails, hit the go pedal.

Just had a thought; Looks like the time/date stamp shows about 8:35pm on 10/13 (Sat.). With all the yelling and carrying on, then the run thru the overpass, reckon he might have had a little "too much fun" (or something)?

So it looks like there is a camera/sensor that can tell if you are over 11'8" and turns on the flashing sign. I have seen this on other low clearance bridges, overpasses.

Insurance, I guess?

I watched a fellow drag a travel trailer under the K Street Bridge in Needles, California. I tried to stop him by yelling out my window and flashing my lights...and thought he heard me for a moment...then he pulled his trailer through anyway.

Everything above the roof line ended up on the ground behind the trailer.

The video below is the same bridge. But not the same situation I saw. The fellow I saw didn't get stuck...he just pulled right through and stopped on the other side. I helped him pick up the pieces and put them in his truck.

Here's another one. I guess that bridge has claimed quite a few RVs.

That bridge is infamous. There are other video compilations of crashes at that bridge. It makes you wonder about some of the drivers. Some, like this guy get to where they hit something and then plow through anyway. Others go through full tilt and the Devil take the consequences.
In one compilation, I saw roofs ripped off trucks and impacts so great they lifted the front wheels of the truck off the ground.

I have been there and I will say it is a bit misleading. The right turn arrow says turn right to access Needles Highway but the arrow is on the wrong side of the street. It seems like you should do what this guy did. The actual access is the next right turn. But it does say clearance 8ft. Looks like a holiday ruined.:(

I guess I don't understand how someone could ignore the warning signs on and at the approach to the bridge (11'8" at 201 S Gregson St, Durham, NC 27701). Maybe at night it wouldn't be obvious what the issue is, but during the day ... ? I visited the site this spring en route to the Duke Gardens. (Magnificent!) I wanted to see the setup. The issue is a heavy steel crossbar that is a tad lower than the physical railroad bridge that protects the bridge's structure.

That bridge is in my neck of the woods. I have not gone to see it myself, but have heard the legendary stories about this bridge.

I was watching some of the other videos on that YouTube channel showcasing the poor decision making of many a truck/bus/rv driver going under that overpass. The "reverse of shame" after hitting the clearance bar must be overwhelming. There's audio on many of the videos, creating more comical relief.

On motorcycles it's a good philosophy, twist the go grip. It either ends the suspense or fixes the problem. With my TT not sure that's the route I'd take.

Simply put "You Can't Fix Stupid" to have a warning flashing brightly and not turn is senseless!! There were no other tall vehicles next to him, so should have realized it was him. Then again maybe like the guy I ran into before that couldn't not backup!
Just like the video of a Swift Trucking driver busting up his cab forcing a U turn, hen he could have backed up about what looked like 50' to 100' then take a simple left turn.

Maybe the warning signal should send a text message, apparently those folks are already looking down at their phones to miss the obvious warnings!!!

Stupid is as stupid does. They deserve what they get. My camper is 10’11” and I would never go under that bridge.
