View Full Version : Gray Tank Issue

So I am currently having an issue with my gray tank always reading 1/3 full after a couple of camping trips ago. I have tried filling and emptying the tank several times, filling with a mix of dawn dish soap, simple green and water and emptying but still did not correct

Currently it is on day 3 with sitting completely full with a mixture of dawn dish soap, simple green.

From what I saw the ground sensor and the level sensors on the fresh water tank and the rear black/gray tank are on opposite sides of the drain so there should be no way something in the gray tank is connecting between the two to give me a false reading.

My opinion is don't lose sleep over them NOT working or you'll be awake A LOT! Differing opinions to follow!

Does your gray tank sensor always read 1/3 full (even when empty) or always read 1/3 full (even when the tank is full to overflowing) ???

Depending on your answer, it may be a bad connection on a sensor further up the tank or a problem with the connections grounding out because of a pinched wire.

When is your tank sensor reading 1/3 full and do any of the other sensor lights ever light????

Yes I am referring to the GRAY tank. I know it is not uncommon for the black to be wrong but not the gray.

at Empty it reads 1/3 full but when it gets past that the lights (1/2, 2/3 and full) work fine

Open the valve let the condensation dry out it should drop to empty . I just don't think it's worth the time trying to make the gauges work, my fresh water dosnot work right .

as previously stated, I do not pay any attention to these crazy lights !! Only concentrate on the black tank and then only when it starts burping. No need for lights just empty it "Its Full"

HOT water with dawn ultra blue has fixed gray tank sensor issues 100% of the time. Even the class C I
Just did that didn’t read at all.

Mine reads 2/3 full all the time. We things start gurgling I empty it.

But I am going to try to get it fixed on the so called life time warranty my wife bought.

From my experiences that how long it'll take to get them to work!

Defenition of lifetime warranty, you'll spend the rest of your lifetime waiting for the claim to be paid.

Now that is the truth.

I was very tired of having all three tanks not reading correctly. The standard sensors are little flathead buttons which get covered with residue. The residue is very hard to remove with out removing the sensors and cleaning then or replacing them.
If you are going to replace the probes may I suggest what I replaced all three of my tanks with:
Valterra Horst LLC T21301VP TANK PROBE, BLACK WATER, and Valterra LLC T21302VP TANK PROBE, GRAY WATER, and FRESH WATER TANKS.
When I was replacing them I noticed that the lowest sensors on each tank was at the same Hight as the ground sensors. This is the 1/3 mark. When I have empty tanks they read empty when the truck is level. I keep the fresh water tank full. But keep some water in both the gray and black water tanks. This shows 1/3 full because my trailer sits at a slight angle toward the sensors. The bottom sensors are only about 1” up from the bottom of the tank. This is why it reads 1/3 full.
You can check out the Video on these sensors on you tube. https://youtu.be/iABA43tHVXI
Hope this helps.

Why worry about it. It's grey water. If it gets to be more than one turd full, and you have all lights working - drain it and forget it.

I have had a Laredo 5th wheel for 5 years now and other than the first several months, none of the sensors have worked. Grey always shows 3/4 full, black, always full, and fresh water always empty.
