Provider Tires

I have my new Alpine, just hit 2000 miles on it. It has Provider Tires. Tread is still good, but like many it seems this is an off brand. Anyone have experience on how long these will last? Last thing I want is a blow out. We’ve had some hot weather traveling 100+.

Yes they are made in China,but are they China bombs? I don't know or intend to find out. My tires are in great shape and I will give them a spin for a few trips unless my TPMS (highly recommended) or negative feedback on this forum say's otherwise.

I don't think all "Chinese" made tires are inferior. From what I've seen there are certain plants in certain provinces (Shandong) that seem to produce the majority of the "bombs" so just being "Chinese" isn't the driving factor; it goes deeper than that from what I can tell. Probably who owns the plant, oversight, production criteria, QC etc.

The G rated Provider tires on your Alpine will be just fine. They are 4400 lbs at 110 psi. Wheels should be rated at that since it came from factory with those tires on it. You can verify wheel psi by looking on backside of wheel

I’d recommend you spend a few bucks and install a TPMS on the fifth wheel. I have one and also two sensors on my rear wheel tires on truck so I can monitor temps and pressures.

Typically if I tow in 90 plus temps at 62 mph I see about 122 for average psi on RV tires and temps are around 128 depending on which side is getting sun.

My drive tires on truck run at about 90 psi with about 118 temp.

I inflate my G rated Chinese Geo Stars to 110 psi cold and rear tires on truck at 80 psi cold.

My tow speed is a constant 62 mph.

I’m happy that Alpine now comes with G rated tires. My 2014 Alpine came with Trailer King E rated 10 ply crap. They were removed first year before I had issues.

Honestly any G rated tires on an Alpine or like weight fifth wheel will be just fine for several seasons.

Proper cold air inflation and keeping speed at a sensible 65 or less is paramount.

Right now I’m an top of air pressure all the time. Check it everytime we leave and every time we stop.

Air pressure is only half the needed checks. You might want to also pick up one of these on your next trip to Harbor Freight for about $15. https://www.harborfreight.com/non-contact-infrared-thermometer-with-laser-targeting-69465.html Or if preferred, you could spend $50 at NAPA for one....

Don't worry about "specific temperatures, rather monitor at stops for temp ranges that are similar on adjacent tires, wheels, brake drums...

Yup, but Fishsizzle is saving for a new truck and doesn't yet have a TPMS. That infrared thermometer is an interim measure for $15 until he can swing the funding for a $250 TPMS. Just one alternative for members who don't yet have all the goodies but still have tires on their trailers that need to be checked. It just makes life a little easier in the meantime....

Honestly knowing what I know now my TPMS would have been my first purchase of any extra item for the fifth wheel... it’s amazing even on a 28 degree morning to watch those tire pressures increase 10 psi in the first five minutes of road travel.

They won’t catch most tread separations that are about to occur.. nothing beats a get on your knees and look all around closely at each tire.

Also Harbor Freight has a low cost flexible borescope camara that’s a nice to have.

I agree. Honestly, if I was in Fishsizzle's shoes, saving for a new truck with a built in TPMS and rear view camera option, I wouldn't be spending money on a "temporary system" for my current truck either. Granted, it's a "gamble things won't go bad in the meantime" but paying $250 for a system to use now that's going to sit on the shelf or get sold for $25 at the next garage sale just doesn't make good economic sense... (which brings me to why I shop at Harbor Freight for much of my "goodie stuff") ...

My 2017 Alpine 3660FL came with those . First trip around 1000 miles and one of the tires literally had chunks of rubber break off. Fortunately nothing happened and got it replaced during the one warranty. I ordered and installed Sailun tires and I turned my replaced tire into my spare as it was a 10 ply instead of 14. Took another trip with the new Sailuns and have been happy so far. Didn't want to risk a blow out, worse damage to unit

I had Provider G rated on my Alpine. Put 60 miles on them towing the 5th wheel home from the dealer. Sold them on Craigslist with 60 miles on them. Put Sailuns on the 5th wheel and never looked back. No comparison in quality between the Providers and the Sailuns.

From my personal experience, with a different rig and set of tires, when a tread is getting ready to separate there is a shutter similar to running on the rumble strips. A friend had all kinds of work done on his TV thinking he had a balance issue. Instead it was 2 of his 4 TT Tire’s causing the vibration? He found that out when they tore his rig when they separated.

Wow! He must have very sensitive cheeks! I've had my share of blowouts on TTs & 5rs & never have felt a thing.

A word about replacement tires... I chose Sailuns for our Montana years ago and never had a problem (over 2700 mi.) on them so far. Have read all the reviews etc. and I will get Sailuns for the Truck as well next Dec.
