I have a 2018 Laredo and would like assistance picking a solar panel to keep our battery topped up when we are away from the RV if the electricity should go out. There is a solar plug in already built into the trailer.

If you are like me and don't like the idea of drilling holes in the roof then a portable solar kit might be the answer. The good ones come with a controller that will vary the charging amps according to the discharge level of the battery; thus protecting the battery from overcharge. I'd recommend a 100w minimum size. Good companies to look at for both kits and permanent mount are Zamp and Renogy.

Look at the plug on the side of your trailer, it’s probably 10A max, not really that much.

I use a single 100W Renogy solar panel with a 30A charge controller. Works like a champ. This is the exact system I have installed.
