Where leaving Sept 4 for moab utah then west to Memaloose st park Oregon then ft Stevens st park will be there Sept 21 then south 101 to moose loudge then east for street vibration in Reno. It was 2 years ago we got swamped with typhoons and tornadoes at South beach Oregon that released 5 year drought. I'm concerned with smoke from fires on the Oregon coast.

It's not the coast that normally has fires. Fires are mostly inland, the winds at the coast mostly blow from the Pacific inland. This year along I-84 has had it's share of fires. They do every year, this year several bigger than normal. That park has had it's 2nd fire this year. First at rest area part. I do not know the cause but, suspect cigarettes in the grass or garbage. 2 days ago a fire started just across the freeway and so far is headed south away from the park as that is the normal wind direction.
Bottom line the dry areas along the gorge and throughout the I84 system have lots of summer fires most from trains, vehicles on the freeway and farming equipment. The PDX metro area has been spared smoke from all fires so far this year.

Hello from Long Beach, WA. You shouldn't have any worries.
We've had basically clear skies all along and the coast usually gets NW winds and keeps us cool and clear. And in late September, hopefully the fires will be out.
September is usually the best month on the coast.
Have fun on your trip!

Only issue with your plan is that currently there is a wildfire near Memolse SP, don’t think it is in the park, but currently the area is under a level 3 evacuation notice (leave NOW). It could miss the park entirely or if the winds bad burn the park.

Like I posted that fire is across the freeway headed south. But, that could change.

Don't count on any rain for anything thru the rest of August. Sept is normally the best time to visit the Oregon coast. Less crowded, or at least in the past , and the weather is great. I expect barring a 180 turn around that Sept will be as nice as the rest of the summer's been.

How is the smoke in Oregon today? Here in the Seattle area you can see and smell it, apparently mostly from the many fires burning in B.C., bad enough that I would not stay outside more than to go to the car.

PDX finally got smoke today. News said will be here through tomorrow. Unsure how far south in the valley it goes. News said most is from Canada's fires.

Just came through the Gorge today. Very smoky but no fires to be seen. Memaloose had campers in it. We saw several units parked and set up as we passed on the highway.

For the first day in awhile, the sky is blue and the sun is bright today. Going to be cooler and cleaner air for the weekend they are saying. I'm going camping!

When the valley is hot everything is pulled in from the ocean. We have had smoke from BC fires and back to the marine layer which socks us in with low clouds and mist. Some days it burns off. Hoping it cools in the valley so we can see the sun. Or a good rain would help.
So far, no fires on the coast but it is dry, dry, dry.

We cancelled a trip for Glacier Park and BC because of evacuations and smoke. We saw pictures if some parts of 84 that were like driving in a thick fog. In BC the streetlights are on during the day.

Now Back home in Florence Oregon and no smoke here on coast, but once you go inland from Eugene south till you past Redding California not so good places everyone driving with headlights on smoke laying like thick fog.

Where leaving Sept 4 for moab utah then west to Memaloose st park Oregon then ft Stevens st park will be there Sept 21 then south 101 to moose lodge then east for street vibration in Reno. It was 2 years ago we got swamped with typhoons and tornadoes at South beach Oregon that released 5 year drought. I'm concerned with smoke from fires on the Oregon coast.

We just returned from 13 days at Winchester Bay on the coast. Clear sky, cool temps. Even had a brief shower. Regarding Memaloose, we've stayed there many times. Be aware that it is close to the river, the railroad runs right below it (good railfanning) but not too noisy and the wind usually blows. Do you have reservations? It can fill up. Another option not too far down the road is Ainsworth State Park. Nice park, on the "hill" side of the freeway. Several "pull through" spots as well. Go down and eat at the Multnomah Falls lodge if you do stay there. Also, do you have reservations at Fort Stevens? That park is quite busy even into the fall. Mostly fishermen and crabbers (retired people) so the prime spots are usually full, even into October. By all means, check out all the historic buildings and museum at Ft. Stevens. Close to Tillamook is Cape Lookout state park as well. Just a few ideas!

Ainsworth state park was still closed in july due to the fire last year unsure if it opened yet. There you get to hear the freeway traffic and trains traveling in Oregon and even in Washington most nights. I have timed the trains and there is one on either side of the river about every 15 mins on some nights it can be 30 mins or more.
