Master Bedroom Modifications Alpine 3650RL

Hello, I have a 2019 Alpine 3650RL on order and wanted to get other peoples opinion on a modification I want to complete when I take ownership of it. Unit comes with a King Sized bed 70" x 80"

I am looking to either cut down or replace plywood under bed so that a Queen sized mattress will fit into that space. This will add approx. 5" of space on each side of bed to allow for additional room to get around bed. At the pillow end of bed there are night stands that I was going to add a 2"x 4" (with 3/4" plywood top and bottom) (or something like it) spacer on both sides of mattress to make up for the space that will be there.

Does anyone have any reason not to do this or suggestions if they may have done this themselves.

The reason that I am doing it is to allow for a person that uses a walker/wheel chair to get around a little bit better.

If it's like my king bed there is a slide under the mattress . I thank you could slide the plywood where every fit the mattress . The slide pushes the mattress in you will have to see where the slide stops pushing the mattress.

Unless someone can specify I think it will depend on how big the box is under the king bed. You can't (shouldn't) build a platform smaller than the bed enclosure under it.....unless you are going to rebuild it as well.

And, I just have to say this, a 3650RL with a 150?? I know it says for now, but we've also seen folks that order new trailers and have them in 6 weeks or so. You need to have a LOT more truck by the time it comes in. It's a 15,500 lb. 5th wheel!!

What according to the commercials an F150 can do everything!

FYI for the next few years I will be on a seasonal site so the F150 will be fine until an upgrade comes along. I have access to either of the big 3 so not to start the debate but which one to choose.....

I find the little “end tables” next the RV king bed quite handy. If I were to go to a queen bed I would modify the tables to add shelves.

I did the modification you are considering to my 2019 3700FL. If you didn't know it, the king size bed used in the RV is not a standard residential bed. It is smaller. You will not be able to use standard fitted sheets and accesories. I cut the base consisting of osb to accommodate a standard residential queen bed. The length of the queen residential mattress is the same as the RV mattress queen or king, so you will not have an issue with the slideout. I made a 45 degree cut to the 2 corners of the osb base, then I rimmed the under side of the osb base with 2X3 pine (glued and screwed) to give the edges a finished look and add stability. I should mention that I removed the 3 hinges so the osb could be cut outside. In doing so, I noticed how flimsy the hinges were and how they were starting to bend from the lift struts pressure. I replaced the 3 hinges with 5 obtained from home depot which solved a future problem that was sure to happen.

Now I have a bed that uses an easy to find residential queen mattress and is easy to find sheets and comforter to fit. As you mentioned too, it is easier to make the bed with the extra 4" on each side. I'm a happy camper with this mod!
