Running Boards

Has anyone come across some sort of an “extender” to lower the height of the running boards by like 6 inches?

I have seen the powered running boards that extend and lower when you open the door and then retract when you close the door but at about $1400. Not installed I’m looking at other options!

Maybe a welding shop could cut the brackets and then weld in a longer one?

Since DW has had a little knee/hip trouble the last couple years I also have looked to find factory brackets that would lower the board on her side. Nothing, zero, zilch. I spent another 45 minutes this AM looking again in hopes that someone had invented/developed lower brackets, but still no luck. If I find anything I'll post back or send you a PM.

I too am getting to the point with a creaky pair of knees (35 years of skiing injuries) of considering a lower running board. Mechanically, to do it to the existing would require a special bracket which in turn would put a very long lever arm on the floor supports. Since my RBs are not in great shape nor have they been since about a year old, am thinking that maybe just a foot loop could work

When I get a chance to get to a welder I’ll post back what I find out.......otherwise the DW may have me getting the powered ones !

Put a rope on the stool so you can pull it up after you get in your rig. It works watched a security guard use this set up for years.

Same issue. Nothing out there that I have come across either. Spoke with my GM dealer parts guy last oil change and he said that the OEM brackets are it. Have something fabricated I suppose, at what expense though? An enterprising person could make a bundle.

Your best bet is probably going to be a machine/welding shop. I'm afraid a welding shop may come up with something that looks homemade. I just had a receiver adapter modified at a machine shop and it looked like a factory job when completed; no machine marks, powder coated etc.

I would also note that there may be a different set of running boards that just sit lower. I had 2 Ram pickups that were virtually identical. One came with the factory running boards and the other had running boards installed at the dealer before the new sale to me that were not the "factory" units. There was a very real difference in the height of the running boards on the trucks due to the design of the brackets - not 6" but maybe 3 or so.

Not for 3 1/2 inches.....but don't think we don't appreciate your efforts in this matter. In payment for your efforts let me send you a picture of say some ribs or some b-b-que.......:D

b-b que...works for me. I think they were more like $700. We got to the point in our life, and the wife's, where 3 1/2" matters. We are going down to one vehicle soon so this one will be the keeper.

Don’t think we don’t understand. We spent $360 for the four-step conversion for the Raptor. And we gained about 1 1/2 inches per step. Momma was happy.....

Frank...... I like those boards! That may be the answer for me , I need to find out how low they would be on my truck!

What truck are they pictured on?

2016 Ram2500 4x4 CTD Laramie. Where the rule is the threshold measures about 26". You should be able to measure your truck and see how it compares. Do a google search, there are many venders and prices very.
