Well, took the plunge and replaced the Trailer Kings on our new trailer with Carlisle HDs. Discount Tire wanted $499 out the door. Wouldn't work with me. Wally World had them for $354. Mounted, balanced, out the door. The OEM tires had less than 3K miles but replacing them was less than my deductible. One less worry.

BTW, the price I paid was the advertised $67 per tire plus tax, plus mount and balance. The date codes are 4317 & 4517. ST225/75R/15 - load range E.

Date Code 4317 is Oct 23, 2017 - Oct 29, 2017
Date Code 4517 is Nov 6, 2017 - Nov 12, 2017

So your "new tires" aren't but about 6 months old. The only reason to be concerned would be if they were a year, two years or more "older" than the current date. Most tires "age out" at around 5 years, many of us just replace them at 3 or 4 years of use, so tires built in Oct/Nov of last year aren't significantly older than most. Buying them for $67 each rather than $125 each plus mounting charge, is, in my opinion, much smarter than paying double for tires that are 2 months "younger".

I think you made a logical (and thrifty) decision. Others may disagree, but if you feel better about having better tires and a cheaper price, then it's a "win/win" for you. I'd have done the same thing (for what that's worth).....

I did the same last year. They were significantly cheaper at Walmart and were only about 5 months old if I remember correctly.

Thanks for the response. I wasn't trying to bang on Discount Tire. I know that many on here have praised them for their service and pricing. I purchased a set of Maxxis back in 2013 and found their price to be competitive and their service good. This time around, the current salesman/manager just didn't want to deal. He quoted me something over $500. I asked why it was so high - he smiled and said "because that is the cost". When I mentioned that the DT website listed them at $67, he clicked some more on his computer and said the best he could do was $499. So much for truth in advertising and their claim of price matching. Then he wanted to argue with me about the significance of the date codes. Never argue with your customer - at least, not THIS customer - left there and went to Walmart. BTW, for those interested, the DT store was in Visalia, CA.
Having 15" wheels, I have limited choices available in tires. Happy with the deal I made. Hopefully, these tires will be as good as the Trail RHs I had on the Cougar when we traded.

That's interesting. After seeing many positive responses to Dicount Tire on this and other RV forums I visited a local store for the first time a couple weeks ago. (DT just came to my area in the last year or so).

I was thoroughly impressed. The store manager was a little weird but he stepped right up on price. I keep my TT about 60 miles from home and was planning to buy tires at the Wally World in that area, mostly for convenience sake. But after dealing with this guy, I'm probably going to pull it home to buy tires.

Good call, you'll have peace of mind going down the road. The tire fairy must have shined on me because the D-rated Carlisle HD's I recently installed were right around $50+tax on Walmart's web site. Had them delivered to work and a nearby tire shop balanced & mounted for $15 each. A bonus was the 0218 date stamp on all four. I'm breathing much easier because the Towmax tires on my rig were "originals" from 2012! (we bought it used).
