Generac 7500E 30A Connection to trailer?

I have a Generac 7500E home generator. I use it periodically when the electric goes out at my house. I use the 30A port to power a manual switch for circuits in my house. I also have a Champion 3100W that I use when boondocking.

For maintenance, I start each every month and let them run for about 30-40 minutes each after putting a load on them. For both, I would normally simply plug in a set of 1000w halogen lights for a while to each generator. However, lately I have just been plugging in my trailer to the Champion's 30A RV connection and turn on the AC to exercise the Champion.

My question is about the 30A connection on the Generac. It says it is 120v/240V at the 30A port. I am assuming that it will use whatever is needed between the 120/240. I know the trailer should never be on 240V. I do not see a switch of any type that allows me to move from 120 to 240 and back. I have the cable converter from the 30A NEMA L14-30R to the standard RV port. I just wanted to ensure that it would work with out any adjustment to the L14-30R port as far as voltage. Like I said, I assume that it will use 120V when using the dogbone connector.

This is a "best guess" so take it for what it's costing you.....

That generator can't distinguish whether it's connected to a 120 or a 240 volt circuit, so it can't automatically switch between "RV power" and "House dryer power".... That said, there's either got to be a 120/240 switch somewhere, the plug is an "RV ONLY" plug or it's a 240 VAC plug. It can't be both.

On my Champion 4000, there is a 120 VAC "RV plug" and there is a "twist lock 240 VAC plug" (with 4 connectors: Hot A, Hot B, Neutral and Ground). The only way to get 240 VAC is to use that "twist lock plug". Everything else on the generator is 120 VAC.

If you have a voltmeter, measure the RV plug. If it's 120 VAC from the left pin to ground and 120 VAC from the left pin to the right pin, then it's wired for 120 VAC. If there is 240 VAC between the left/right pins, then it's wired for 240 VAC.

Ok, it works fine by just using a dogbone from the twist lock to the RV 30A.
The generator automatically changes from 120V or 240V. A call to Generac confirmed this.

I also plugged in my surge guard 30A protector and it worked perfectly allowing the trailer to be plugged in.

You will need to make a special adapter cord to convert from the generators 120/240 V output to a 30 amp RV standard plug as they are undoubtedly different and the RV plug would not fit in any event. It will work exactly the same as a 50 to 30amp; RV park adapter. In fact, that adapter would be a good place to start if you have an extra. Cut off the 50A plug and get the proper plug to fit the Generac. Wire the cord to one hot side, the neutral and the ground. Do not connect the other hot leg to anything.
