Help new guy identify this doohicky!

First I apologize for not having a better image! its the small white guy in the bottom of the attached. And I cannot find one anywhere I have searched. I just brought home (like today) a 2014 Hideout 28BHSWE and it has a long narrow white plastic flap mounted to the cabinets just above the floor left of the stove, but right of the sink. At first I thought it was some sort of garbage bag dispenser or something. Upon further investigation - it has a flap that reads Up - open / Down - closed. And under that flap is like an L shaped "valve" that runs the full width of the doohicky. In the open position I can feel a small hole just big enough to get a couple fingers in. Seems like some sort of air circulation valve or something like that. I would just love some insight on what it may be or why I care about it! Thanks and sorry!

I bet it is a vacuum. Open vacuum turns on and you sweep dirt into it. Just I guess I could be way wrong. Only seen one in person at RV shows on way higher end campers. But have seen them added to many.

Thats a great idea, I hadn't thought of that, nor have I seen an "on button" for the damn thing. I do know it doesn't look "factory" though.

Correct! Vacuum it is. Looks like a Pintrest job though... its seriously a mini shop-vac mounted under the sink then a small cut-off switch mounted under cabinetry.

Little push button switch is wired inline with the plug the shop-vac is using it looks like.

That's slick as goose grease! My DW asked "Do we have an area for that?"

My only concern would be venting. Those little vacuums are not known for their HEPA filtering ability; if the area with the vacuum connects to the drawers where you have silverware or other food prep items, you might want to consider rinsing the objects before use.

That sir is a great idea, I hadn't thought of that. And yes it appears that everything is open under there so the exhaust from this little guy is just blowing all over everything.

Alternatively I could run some more ducting on the exhaust out into the living quarters... :trash:

Okay - if I followed all of this - to use this device, one manually sweeps the floor and directs the little (or large) pile of debris to the aforementioned hole in the wall where the "vacuum" sucks it up. If we have to use a broom to work the vacuum, seems easier to just use a dustpan? Am I missing the point here?

I think the point is you don't have to get a dustpan, pick up the dirt, find a place to dump it, and then put the dustpan away. Seems reasonable to me.

I think I would just use the broom and dustpan. Since you have to broom it up, then feed it to the vac, let it blow dust throughout the house, clean that up, crawl in there to remove the dust bag, replace it and clean the vac......just, bending over with a dustpan, pitching it in the trash and putting the dustpan back under the counter seems pretty simple to me:D

There are times when a man just ha9d to reach around his elbow to scratch his butt. This may be one of those times.

Are you certain that this is a vacuum for dirt? Is it connected at all to the water supply? I only ask this because we have a Hideout and that section where you have that white flap is where our water pump is located. When it's time to winterize it is awful because it is really hard to get access to the valves to attach the antifreeze hose. We have to take out the drawers and then use a mirror to try to see what we're doing. That white flap may have been a mod to allow access to the water pump valves? Don't know what the vacuum addition would be for... to clean up spilled water? (We often do have to use a bunch of towels when we're winterizing.)
