Most axels have a curve to them. If it was curved to the down side, would that be a problem?

Yep, the curve is suppose to be on the topside of the axle so as weight is applied it allows the tube to somewhat straighten out. If its on the bottom either someone flipped it to get more height by having the spring perches rotated to the top for spring over or it was installed wrong, either way its not right!

I've a similar problem with my 5th wheel since I gave it a 10 inch lift...

It included an "axle flip" as this was needed to mount the axle below the springs instead of above.

As I had mentioned, an axle flip isn't actually an axle flip but a kit purchased to mount the springs on top of the axles. Orientation of the orig spring pad isn't changed.
