Hey everyone. So, we have a week until we take our new trailer on her maiden voyage. I was checking things and decided.to open up the batteries to have a look at the levels. I have 2 6v batteries. We've had it a month and it's been plugged in. Fluid levels were fine. But I noticed that the battery boxes were about 1/2 full of water all around the battery. In order to dump them out o have to disconnect the batteries.

Any tips so that this doesn't happen again? I still can't figure out how rain got in there.

Water can get in the little vents on the top. I would just drill one or two holes in the bottom of each battery box. That should solve the problem.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing some insider secret. lol

If you decide to drill holes in the bottom of the boxes, consider where you drill them. If they will cause the contents to drain onto the steel crossmembers of the battery tray, should the battery "boil over" you'll have acid leaking onto the steel. Not a good idea for something that isn't checked and cleaned often. If you can drill them where any water would drain into the open space between the steel rails, problem solved.

I was just thinking the same thing about making sure that the holes are draining in between the supports. Thank you for letting me know.

Good point, I did drill my drain hole in the middle of the box.

If it "just dribbles out" and the trailer is not level, it may follow the bottom of the box to the low point before dripping off the bottom. Something to keep an eye on, just in case.

Well, I drilled 2 holes. Slowly. mm by mm. There was a lot of water in those boxes. I've owned it for a month. Lol1612716128

You need to determine where that water is coming from. Leaking into the box is one thing and should be stopped. The batteries can also generate their own overflow. You have to know what it is and stop either of them.

I'll keep an eye on it though.
