Slow moving livingroom slide

Hi all!

Thanks for the add to the group. I like reading all the helpful posts.

I'm new to 5th wheel ownership and so far I love it!! So much easier than the tow behinds I'VE had for years. Anyway, we just bought a 2011 Cougar High Country 291RLS. The livingroom slide moves soooooo slow on extension but retracts fairly quickly. Is this normal or is there something I can do to speed up that slide extension?

Is the trailer perfectly level side to side and front to back when you are doing this? When it's going out, does the motor sound different than when it's coming in?

Yes, the trailer is level before we put the slides out. The motor sounds more strained when it extending than when it's retracting.

Just for clarification, is this a cable operated slide?

Can you see rollers that support the slide? About 1-2 inch diameter and 3-4 inches long.

I had the same issue when I opened my camper last weekend.
It is in a permanent spot at a resort. I plugged the camper in to the AC box there.
It was moving out so slowly I thought something was bent on the slide.
Then I realized my battery wasn't fully charged from sitting all winter without a charge.
I pulled my truck next to it and hooked up the jumper cables.
I have never heard that motor sound that strong. It shot out like it was on greased rails.
If you use the battery in the camper maybe it is just not holding a good charge.

If it's a slide with Darco on the bottom and sliding across a wear bar it is imperative that the bottom is 1) totally clean and free of silicones, sprays etc. (washed and rinsed) and 2) lubricated (and wiped off) with some sort of "dry" lubricant on the wear bar. The manufacturer recommended Zep 45 to me and I bought a case because that was all I could get....it worked. Someone said that WD 40 "dry lubricant" (I think) worked as well.
