We have our new 333MKS fifthwheel, and so far the only thing I've found wrong is one of the Slam baggage latches isn't holding the door securely shut. There are two latches on the door, but only one securely holds latched. The problem is that when you pull the release, even with the lock in the locked position you can pull the door partly open (the lock doesn't release, it stays locked) - and then unfortunately, you can get your hand behind door, and I'm sure anyone could pull the door totally open, if not right off the hinges.

I've looked at the latch and can't see what's wrong with the latch. When I push the door shut, I can hear the latch go behind the latch part, it just doesn't hold it securely shut. There really isn't any adjustment, the latch is fitted into the cutout in the door - which you can't easily change, and the latchplate is a small extruded aluminum part, and it's screwed in from the bottom, so no adjustment there. If anything it just seems like I need to increase the amount of latch over the latchplate, so the only thing that seems possible is to add something to the top of the latchplate to increase that bite surface.

BTW, really anyone with flat prybar, could defeat the latch, just don't want to make it too easy!

Since the latch catch is attached from underneath, if you have a gap between the door and frame on that side, you can remove the screws holding the frame on that part. We use batten trim to “shim” the frame and raise it enough for better engagement of the latch. Put the shim between the door frame and the trailer cutout, reinstall the screws and only tighten snug. Most often times you can’t really “see” where it’s been shimmed.
