Carbon 349 Mods

Just purchased my Carbon 349 a few weeks ago. Already doing some needed mods as we all know all Toy Haulers needs updates.
1) Installed a Surge Guard. See pics. Note: Check all your connections in your trailer. Keystone put the neutral wire in the front panel breaker box but forgot to tighten the screw. Check all the screws on the breakers and ground/neutral bars to make sure they are tight.
2) The main upstairs bed is only 1/2" plywood and when you push it closed it flexes a lot. I imagine if someone (grand kids) jump on the end it just might break in half. Put a couple of 1 x 3 braces under-neigh to support it.
3) Also the main upstairs beds plywood sheet has sharp square corners. I can see me getting up at night and running my knee into the corner. Rounded off so I won't be yelling expletives in the middle of the night when I run into one.
4) Put a Maxxair vent cover on top. Note: Didn't notice the back vent is a Maxxair power vent so the standard cover will not work on those. Still have to purchase a MaxMate cover to cover that one. This will keep the original vent covers in pristine shape as they tend to decay and then blow off.
5) In the next few weeks will add some .025 diamond plate to the front of the 349 to keep rock chips from ruining the fiberglass. Will have pics when that is done.

Definitely going to do some of this to ours. Bed corners....yep, hit my leg on it already.
Also I don't like how the mattress freely slides around on the plywood. A few strips of HD Velcro (plastic side grip) stapled to the wood could help by gripping the mattress material.

Just installed a Smart TV and DVD player. Fits perfectly and very easy to see from the bed. 32" Samsung 1080P Smart TV. Sony DVD player that fits perfectly in the little cubby under the TV in the main area.

Nice. How much was the DVD? Is it Blu-ray?
We want to upgrade our Samsung Blu-ray/DVD with one that has wireless LAN to stream Netflix from our router

Is your tv mounted solid or on a movable/telescopic mount?? Just thinking about that screen being that close to your slide while traveling..

I rounded the bed platform corners too, but only after I'd banged my knee/shins on them a few times!

Funny, I bought the exact same Blu-ray player for our Carbon.

If possible could you post a link to the tv mount you used in the bedroom?

We ended up with a Queen Sleep Number mattress in our Carbon 357, now I can sleep fairly well in that bed. We also made some 1.5" wide x 1/4" thick padded edge strips that mount to the hinged bed support (around the three sides), helps keep the mattress in place and protects my KNEES from the wood splinters in the plywood!!!!

Next mod. I got tired of every time we go camping I have to fold down the lower bed (both sides), latch it, then lift it up again (they are heavy), latch it when we get to the camping site. It says on the bed to not travel in the up position because it could cause damage because of the bouncing of the beds on the rails so I bought a piece of 1/4 x 3" x 4' piece of aluminum and drilled holes to match the bed, then bought some knobs to screw into nuts on the opposite side to keep everything stable, so I can always leave them up. Plenty of clearance for my RZR to fit in without hitting the bed, plus when you get to camp just lower the beds, remove the rail and you are good to go.

Next mod. Ever got in your rv and tried to find the light switch to turn on the interior lights or find any of the switches/buttons in your power panel, then ended up getting a flashlight. No more! I installed this LED light strip on the top of the power panel and installed a lighted switch on the panel. Since I dont' have a 3rd slideout I just used the pocket there to put the switch. See pics. Works great !

Sewer hose storage. Got tired of pulling out everything from the cubby just to find my sewer hose so I built this storage area for it. 5" x 5" vinyl fence post. Glued one end off and the other end bought some spring latches, pop-riveted together, then had some 1" angle iron around so drilled some holes and mounted it on to the rail. Wrapped a little rubber stripping around it just to keep it from wearing. The whole hose and ends fit nicely in it. Mounted just in front of the dump hose outlet. Easy peasy !

Good idea to put that channel up there to mount it to. Looks like it keeps it off the gas line. Might have to modify mine.
