Help with rear diff ratio

Hey guys. So still shopping trucks and finally found what I think I want. Its an 06 Ram 3500, 6spd, longbed.
My only real hangup is rear gear ratio. He has window sticker and it's not listed. I found on some other forum there's supposed to be sticker in glovebox that has it listed, but seller doesn t find one.
Also read a claim it was printed on a label that is wrapped around axle tube. Seller says he sees a sticker with barcode and some text but is obscured by airbag mount.
Also read that if it was 4.10 that it was optioned so would be listed as such on sticker. Was the 3.73 stock??
So does anyone have the straight dope?? I'm assuming I can call the dealer tomorrow with VIN and hoping they can tell me, but thought I'd start here as there is a ton of knowledge(and truck nuts) here.

On my F250 there's a white sticker on the driver's door post that lists a bunch of parameters for the truck. One of them is a code for the differential ratio (see image). The code was buried in the owner's manual.

One of the numbers/letters in your VIN probably is a code for that info. Info should be in your book or online.

Try entering the VIN in an online checker and you may be able to find it. It worked for me when I was looking.

You can post the vin in the equipment listing and it will give you all the info that the truck has.

Thank you for the provided link. I used it and it all seems to match up to the truck in question (got VIN from dealer window sticker that seller sent a pic of so was a bit nervous). I will be sure to check out vin plate in window and make sure it matches.
It has the 3.73 rear end. Thank you again for the help.

With 3.73 you should be able to go to about 14,000# if it is rated to tow that much.

They used to always put a tag on the rear differential cover on one of the bolts that also told the gear ratio.

Just towing our Springdale that's in my signature tag. This truck is overkill for for it, but I am pretty sure that the DW is going to want to upgrade to a 5er down the road.
So I wanted to move up to a truck that would allow us a big window when it came time to shop 5ers. Especially after seeing so many threads where when you add it up technically the 3/4 ton doesn t cut it. Usually in the payload dept from what I've seen here.

The 06 RAM will not have all of the new emission stuff too - better mileage. Always good to look for future TVs. My Chevy has the 3.73 rear end - work good for us.

Iirc 3.73 was standard in that model. I was looking at that year before we got our current truck. The one we had found had 60k miles and almost perfect...like barely used. It had a 3.73 and that Cummings that was very sought after

This truck is a lot higher miles. 215k miles currently. 2nd owner. He just had water pump done 20k miles ago. Also just had ball joints and other front end work done recently. Supposedly never chipped. I still haven't looked at it. Waiting for owner to get back into town.

Freeheel, I would recommend that you do your homework on the now infamous Dodge "Death-wobble" so prevalent in the truck of your choice.
"If you own a Dodge truck built before 2009, you may have the option to swap out your vehicle’s entire steering linkage to a newer style. Beginning in mid-2008, Dodge changed the design of the front suspension, connecting the tie rod to both steering knuckles instead of just to one knuckle and the drag bar (which, in older designs, is the only point of contact with the passenger-side steering knuckle). This new setup is more stable (and also a little beefier) than the old one."
Your truck in question already is experiencing front end problems/corrections. At almost 13 years old and close to a quarter of a million miles you owe it to yourself AND your budget to investigate this problem.

Thanks notanlines. I will have to look into it that. I didn't ask why all the front end work was done. I've heard from many others that ball joints were a common wear item from carrying the extra weight up front. Tie rod ends would seem indicative of other issues. Do you have any idea if you can retro the 08 design onto the truck??
I still haven't seen the truck. Owner says he is pulling back into town tomorrow, so making arrangements to take a look at it. Will look up the wobble in the meantime.
IF I get closer to making the deal happen I am going to take the truck over to my buddies shop and throw it on the lift and run through it with a real close look and a good light.
I'm not in a rush and don't have the jitters to just buy the first truck that comes along. Also not in the budget to pay anywhere near 30k+ for a truck, which limits my search. Not trying to pay 500+ a month for a truck that I intend to use for towing the camper, boats for work, and firewood gathering. Currently my half ton is only being driven around 6k miles per year.
