I just got 500 mile brake in and towed 200 today. The new roller bed adapted to older Reese fifver hitch needed a small edges trimmed to fit into the bed . With the new gmc fifver system will allow me to make sharper turns and possibly jack knif with out hitting the truck .

Looking at the sticker it's a long bed. But the box only measures 7 ft

Let's see the truck! Congrats! If I weren't trying to sell my 5er I'd love a new truck, well a new GMC!

Depends on how heavy your TT is and type hitch you have. I suspect you have a 2 1/2 with sleeve and with the sleeve in you hitch is probably rated to 1250 pounds with WD and 600 without. The 2 1/2 inch should be rated to 1900 with WD and 800 without or close to that. I know a lot 1 tons have just a 2-inch hitch and are only for 1250 pounds like my 2015 Ford F350 was. Since class IV hitch is rated to 1400 pounds tongue weight I ask Ford rep why and he said it wasn't the hitch but other concerns that limited the ratings. There should be a sticker on your hitch giving the ratings. My neighbors Ford has one that looks like this.

If your tongue weight is over 1250 make sure your WD hitch has 2 1/2 shank.

It look like this pic might post from the blm of AZ. I trad d 2013 lml 2500 for the 1 ton. The 2500 did very good handling the heavy impact. The 1 ton is more stable more powerful , quite and new . The 2500 was in my observation was safe and comfortable and over weight. It blew a turbo valve that cost 300 and 1100 labor being broke down at a Laughlin casino parking lot is not fun.

Nice new truck!
We have a 3500 DRW LML 2011. Been good so far with small things needed done. Our dealer service research showed some past warranty work including a new turbo. The prior owner traveled with a 5er.
Any insight on the LML you can pass along? Ever had CP4 pump issue, Regen issue, etc?

I must admit even though I am a Mopar man the G@- Mans Cruiser does look better than the cheby and both are sharp trucks. I see on the 2019 1500's GM finally realized wheels are round again. :D:D

I think if I had used synthetic oil and 5 k miles oil change I might have prevent the 300 $ turbo valve 1100 labor charge . The valve got clouded and preventing the variable vain turbo from working derated the engine. The new duramax requires syn oil and gm filters.

Ahh, ok.
We didn't know exact service miles. So we first did oil change with Rotella T5 syn-blend and AC filter.
Just got a Allison spin on filter for it I need to change.
Just ordered a fuel filter and water sensor wrench. That's next.

I may bypass the PCV soon too. Noticed oily residue near where it goes into intake tube

The engine transmission package in 2500 and 3500 are identical.
I run either Rotella or Delo non synthetic. I change oil and filter every 3500 miles. I also drain tranny and replace spin on tranny filter once a year. I use Transynd fluid in tranny

DO NOT have that Allison power flushed. Only drain and fill. Yes there will be old fluid in torque converter.

Power flush is not recommended by Allison and you run risk of damaging seals.

Dealerships will tell you otherwise. Just buy fluid and filter and do it yourself. Saves lots of money and you know what’s in your rig.

Awesome, thanks.
I hear most also don't change the internal filter or drop the pan unless there was something wrong.
Some say swap the spin on filter every other oil change, even without a fluid drain n fill. I'm leaning towards that plan. But probably do a drain n fill n spin on filter change to start. Since I don't have prior records of basic services. The fluid looms good too on the dipstick.

I bought a filter with new magnet for under $20. Stock Allison filter, no cheapo. Dealer quoted $56 just for the filter alone!

And also another thing.....how accurate is the DIC on the Fuel Filter? Mine goes down and then up a little on % life left. I'm near 70% now. Bought the water sensor wrench, it came in yesterday. Going to buy a Donaldson filter I think. Just not sure if I should swap it now just to do it or wait?

I have oil changed by the DIC % , the manual recommends 10k or once a year. Also change the fuel filter by DIC % which has been about 3 times in 115k miles. Tranny pan dropped once at 100k to change internal, external changed about every other year, so far no problems on 2 trucks.
Changed fluids in both diffs & transfer case at 100k. IIRC the manual recommends the air filter 40-45 k, but we spend time in Arizona & Texas panhandle, both dusty, so that gets changed more often.

Very helpful, thanks.
Prior owner put a AFE filter in it. Bit it was dirty. Also threw 2 codes last month. MAP and MAF. MAF was very dirty so I cleaned it. So far so good.

Highly recommend you remove MAP sensor and gently clean off underside with qtip and alcohol. One 10mm bolt to remove. If this sensor gets funk on the end of it your duramax will go into limp mode. 5 minute job.. I clean this twice a year

Right on thanks. I was going to do this this upcoming weekend. I figured the PCV residue was getting in there

ChuckS

Yup it sure does. You will most likely see a brown milky coating on the end of the sensor. Limp mode sucks.

Not experienced limp mode yet. I cleaned the MAP today and for sure had quite a bit of residue. Being a black housing part, it's very deceiving that it's dirty. But the q-tip don't lie. Lol
My fuel filter and billet bleeder screw should arrive next Tue along with the resonator delete cap. Next order will be PCV bypass. Alot of oily residue in the area before the turbo inlet.
But for 142k miles when we bought it, it was pretty clean truck

If you don’t have and carry a good scan tool I’d highly recommend you do. If your duramax goes into limp mode you will not be able to go faster than 25mph. Scan tool will let you clear codes and get out of limp mode. It’s no fun pulling a fifth wheel and have a minor code thrown and put you in limp mode.

Lol working on that too. Considering a Edge Insight of Evolution to also provide extra gauges to view. Or a BullyDog GT / H&S. I kinda want to give flexibility to go delete later on.

Personally I would not and do not see a reason to install any after market tuner, etc.. that duramax will have more torque and power than you will ever need..

My 2007 is stock.. it gets 13.5 pulling an Alpine fifth wheel.. 20 mpg without.. ive seen a lot of guys install tuners and programmers and have short longevity on the drivetrain.

It’s your rig... enjoy it....

^^^^ X2 I totally agree !!! I towed a 34' Holiday Rambler (10,000 pounds) travel trailer with a 93 Ford 7.3 NA diesel. That had 185HP/358 pounds of torque. I seldom had to downshift that old 4 speed E4OD transmission and got 11 towing/16 solo MPG.

Today's diesels from any of the three major brands has more than double and sometimes triple the HP/torque with a much improved transmission. For loads up to the max rated towing weight, there's just no need to "chip" a modern diesel. Maybe for "braggin' rights" but certainly not for "needed performance".....

"Chipping" today's diesel engines is, in far too may situations, just asking for problems that are non-existant in a stock engine configuration.

Thank yòu will like the airlift system.. I had mine installed in 2007 by dealer when we bought our 2007 GMC classic... also got the onboard compressor and gauge unit. I like be8ng able to adjust load pressure while driving to change for road conditions.. no issues since installed. Very reliable, levels truck nicely, when empty I run about 20 psi and ride is acceptable for a pickup truck.

I installed the newer model airlift bags . With some help from handy man Jack lifting from the hitch . The tough part was drilling a hole up to for the self taping 5/16 dolt . The new Chevy with adapter plate along the farme making it i mpossible for the u bolts to work and to drill straight hole thank goodness I got blocks and 2x4 for leverage to push The drill up . The job was like 6 hours to complete
