I just purchased a Champion 9000 watt generator to run our Outback Sydney 320FDB Fifth Wheel.

Champion 41513 9000 Watt Portable Gas-Powered Generator (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VKRW8Y/ref=ox_ya_os_product)

Question is which outlet do I use? We had a TT that ran on 30 AMP service and a small champion genrator (4500 watt) did the job.

Thanks!

A 50 amp trailer connection typically is a 120/240 volt connection cap an
Capable of 12,000 watts. A 30 amp connection is capable of 3,600 watts.
You have a 9,000 watt unit. Is it wired to supply 120/240 volts? If s you can connect it to your generator but you will be limited to 37.5 amps total. This should be sufficient for your trailer with 2 AC units.

If the unit is wired for 120 volts only it will supply 75 amps. You can connect this to the 120/240 volt 50 amp connection if you bridge the two hot leads but you do risk over current in the neutral wire, although this is unlikely under normal loading.

I checked out the Champion site. The 9KW unit is 120/240 volt. You will need an adapter cord but it wil probably need to be made up on a custom basis.

You should fleck with a electrician if you are not comfortable with doing this yourself.

Thanks for the feedback. I have a good friend who is a Master electrician. I will opick his brain on the custom adapter. Thanks a ton!

vwalla, Howdy;

My opinion is that you are going the best route .....

you are going to an expert in that area... Electric is NOT the area
to 'wing it'. The results can be to catistropic.....

Thanks. Yes, electricity scares the he!! out of me. Good news is I just found out that my plant manager is an electrical engineer (worked for dupont as one for 40 years...you would think I would have seen that on his resume)...anyways. I think I am in good hands!

Thanks!

That sounds great, they should be able to fix you up with the proper plugs, socket and, most important, the proper wiring.

You should have plenty of power.

Just an update. Got the generator in and got it up and running. Made an adapter to go from the 30 AMP 240v to a 50 Amp female (6/3 w/GND). Plugged it up and cranked up both AC units and some lights. Generator did not even skip a beat! Thanks for all the feedback!
