Passport range hood duct?

I noticed I have no duct on the side of my trailer for the range hood. My paperwork says "duct free" no additional holes are needed to vent.
Them a person said that's only if I'm using a charcoal filter? He said the hood needs a vent kit installed.
Nowhere on any of my paperwork does it say anything other than "Duct less" vent hood.
Please share your input on this.

Some people "live with it" some people "mod their range hood and add a vent duct" some people have traded their trailer after trying it.

You can do a forum search for "Range Hood" to get 5 pages of threads that discuss that topic. About 1/3 of them address adding an exterior duct to vent the range hood out of the trailer.

Are you looking for a way to modify it or are you looking for experience using the charcoal filter or how it works without using that filter?

What brand is your hood? The only non vented units I see at my work are the ones that have a microwave/convection above the stove.

Sometimes there is a window in the way of installing the range hood exterior vent,:facepalm: as in our fifth wheel. We use the outside kitchen for frying and other messy cooking.

If you look up where the fan would be, it would obvious if it was charcoal or the generic wire mesh. I’m leaning towards the mesh style.

While on this thread I would just throw in that when buying a trailer, to me, it is very important, stop the deal important, to have an outside vented range hood. They serve many useful, if not mandatory, functions to me.

Most people probably wouldn't notice. Who thinks about checking for a vented range hood? Heck, with all the other things that "seem" more important, the vent hood tends to be a "yeah, it's the same color as the range" and move on to the next thing.... It's only after you get it home that you realize it's not like the last one you owned...... That's when you start wondering how to modify the trailer, etc...

From what I can see, there are two filter assemblies for the range hood. One is the "wire mesh" that you can clean by putting it in the dishwasher (cleanable) and the other is the charcoal filter which you replace (not cleanable). It looks to me like the wire mesh is about $8 and the charcoal is about $14. I don't have any idea how effective the charcoal filter is with odors, but it's no more effective with humidity control than the wire mesh. Next question is: How long will it last? That's anybody's guess how often you'd need to change the charcoal filter.....

I don't even cool in the trailer. Just microwave. I had my last trailer 4 years and never opened the vent once.

Only cooking I try to do is fruit pies and sourdough bread, makes the trailer smell good :)

Having bought trailers and homes with unvented range hoods I understand that lots of folks just buy "what's there". Maybe they use the stove/vent hood, maybe they don't. I bought a house once that had a non vented range hood; never knew. They must have liked to cook a lot on the range top. I spent ONE WEEK cleaning the overhangs on the cabinets, corners, crevices etc. to get all the goo that it allows to migrate into the living spaces.....I said never again.


When I built our current house I specified a large CFM range hood vented out the roof. SOOOO nice vs non vented. In the confined space of an RV trying to cook anything stove top without a vented hood is just messing up the trailer, IMO. We cook very little in the trailer. Frying is zero - that's what my outside/induction cookers are for. What we do use the vent for is taking the heat from the oven to get it outside....and it works well. Our neighbor is like us but she likes her air fryer. Sits it under the vent and cooks away....and I'm always smelling whatever she's cooking in it....:)

I just never even have the consideration the vent wasn't won the wall outside. This is the first I've seen a range hood vet without a duct. I don't need it that's for sure. I just really never even noticed. For me is one less opening to worry about. As far as venting the trailer I have a ceiling vent in the middle of the main living area. I'm good. Lol

That's one way to think about it. I think I need to adopt your attitude about a non-vented range hood. We bought our 2018 2520RL in Oct 2017. Didn't notice the range hood wasn't vented when we bought it. Like you, we have the ceiling fan in the middle of the main living area. Maybe I'm good too! Then again, maybe not. I'm thinking of installing a Vortex II fan up there. Then again, maybe not!:)
