Dexter Screen Door Slide

Hello,

My screen door slide for my 2016 Hideout has broken into many pieces. I have scoured the internet for days and I can only find a RH screen slide. Mine is a LH door. Does anyone know where to get one of these? I have tried to contact dexter and I have not gotten a response from them :(

Camco makes them and Camping World has them. The slide on our trailer is reversible. If you turn it upside down, it will slide the other way.

Mine has a radius in the bottom right hand corner and cannot be reversible. The Camco and Camping world ones are different. Here is a link to the door type:

Yes, I have already found that one. It is for a Rh open door. I need one for the LH side. I cannot find a LH one anywhere.

The left hand part of the slide assembly is permanently mounted. Is that the part you're looking for? Or, do you have a door that opens to the front of the RV (with hinges on the right side, when inside looking at the door) ???

Correct. The door opens to the front of the RV. So the 4701-00 slide part number would be for one that opens to the rear.

I was not aware that Dexter even made "right hand swing" doors for RV applications. Typically that would be a hazard if the door happened to "jar open" while towing. If the wind caught it, it would do considerable damage to the trailer/door at 60 MPH. That's why all RV doors that I've seen in the past 20 years all have "left hand swing"....

Ok. I was able to talk to somebody at Dexter. The part number I need to find is 4704-00. Wish me luck on more hunting.

If you are talking about the piece you slide open for opening the screen door, another idea is to replace it with a piece of plexiglass. I can’t remember the thickness of it, but the piece I used I bought at Lowe’s. I will try attaching a picture of what I did. For the “grip”to open, I just attached a clear Command strip hook, if you zoom in on the photo you can see it. I also replace the rest of that area with the clear plexiglass. I wanted more of a “view”when the door is open. :)

I agree with the idea that a door opening the other way looks dangerous and I feel safer with a door that would be pushed closed by wind while towing if it started to open.

While you are correct to think that most have left swing, not ALL do. MANY of the Airstreams have "right hand swing" doors in my observations of the smaller ones anyway. That kind of bothers me.

Airstream does (always has) have a number of trailer models with "right hand swing" hinges. Why they choose to do that with outswing doors is something I can't answer. I will say that they don't use "Dexter doors" or "Lippert doors" on their trailers. They are all "custom doors" built by the Airstream factory and they typically have die-cast frames, not welded or extruded aluminum frames. I've often wondered the same thing as you, "Why would they do that, it looks dangerous to me".....

I will say that our Airstream door opened "properly" and not "backerds to reason".... but .....
