I have a 2016 Keystone Passport Ultra Lite Express 199ML (bought "new" in April, 2017). I am looking at putting in a much larger-capacity battery than came with the unit (the selling dealer installed a Group 24-size, RV Deep-Cycle battery from Autolite). No problems with the battery so far, but I think its capacity is only about 65 or 75 Amp Hours (AH), which, because it's a 12 volt, lead acid battery, means it can be discharged down to about 50 % capacity before recharging (any lower than 50% and damage to the battery could occur, or so I've read). That translates to only about 32.5 to 37.5 AH of available power.

As I would like to do "boon-docking" in the National Forests where hook-ups are generally not available, and generator use is limited (if not frowned upon), I would like to install a much larger battery with more capacity to extend camping time along with my portable solar panels.

So my question is: What is the usable length and width of the battery tray on the front frame area of the 2016 Keystone Passport Ultra Lite Express 199ML? How big a battery (group size?) and box will fit?

Thanks.

On my 2810, I found that 2 - Group 27 batteries won't fit with standard boxes. I went with 2 - GC2 batteries. I now have 210ah, so 105 usable.

I bought 2 X Duracell SLIGC115 6V golf cart batteries rated at 230 AH and this battery box (https://allbatterysalesandservice.com/century-plastics-heavy-duty-battery-box-holds-2-6-volt-golf-cart-batteries-gce-g) to replace the 2 X group 24 interstate batteries I had.

The group 24 were rated at 75 AH, so I have added a significant increase in capacity and the new box fit, with room to spare, in my battery tray.

A few weeks ago I bought a Renogy 100 watt solar panel and a tilting mount that I plan to use as a portable panel.

Since those are 6 volt batteries, which you have apparently wired in series to produce 12 vdc, do you have to use a 6 volt charger or 12 volt charger?

Years ago on my last TT I fabricated a tray to the tongue big enough for 2 group 27 batteries.

I use the built in converter/charger in the TT.

For the winter, I have them at home on an automatic trickle charger that is 12v. No need to use a 6v charger, just run them in series.

FYI, the 6V GC2 batteries fit in most Group 24 boxes.

I also replaced the converter, with a Progressive Dynamics PD4655 MBA, 4 stage unit, that fit into the existing WFCO power center, it does a great job keeping them charged.
