RAM Cummins i6.7 Recalls

Hi All,

I searched for a related thread and i was unable to locate one.

I am trying to find out the time frame of anyone having one or both of the current 2016 (or others) RAM Cummins equipped vehicles having their latest recalls repaired.

The water pump is one recall (with the i6.7L engines) and the other is the brake transmission interlock (not Cummins related).

I am trying to find out if anyone has had these repairs completed by FCA since the recalls. We have a long trip planned in July and am hoping that these will be complete by then.

I realize that the two notices that I received said they were short on parts.

I talked with my service guy and it is not short on parts. The recalls are both in early stages. Replacement parts have not even been made yet. Relax enjoy the truck. The shifter interlock. If yours is broke. Then it is just like a automatic from 40 years ago. Still safe to use. Keep in touch with your dealer and just use the truck.

The recall for my 3500 showed up 2 weeks ago on my "My Dodge" app for the trans lock. Advised to wait for details on repairs. Could be awhile.

Don't look for anything soon, if your water pump fails they will fix it, but it may still be subject to the recall. They haven't publicly defined what pumps are defective. Keep a eye out for leaks.

Same here. Just sit back and relax. My 2014 has had like ten recalls and none of them amounted to a hill of beans. The shifter one is probably because some jackass doesn’t know how to put it in park. Lol. Recalls are just a way or life these days.

Someone indicated on here I thought in another thread that you could tell if your water pump was one on the recall by whether or not it had the weep holes I believe in the shaft housing. Maybe they will chime in. In answer to your question, dealer told me no parts were available as of yet and to keep on truckin, well he really didn't say that, Lol, but he did say keep driving it and when they have something I would be notified.

I pretty sure it all the water pumps 2013 and up. My 2018 should get delivered this week. I will let you know what I find out with it!

40+ yrs working on vehicles, can’t say I’ve ever seen a water pump without weep hole.

Thanks for the replies.

It was the statement that it could catch fire that had me a bit concerned.

Since the recall I am keeping a close eye on the temps with that info on the screen on the dash.

Here ya go,
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2013-2017 RAM 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis, 4500 Cab Chassis, and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles, equipped with Cummins 6.7L Turbo Diesel engines that have Concentric-brand water pumps without a vent hole. These water pumps may leak coolant. The leaking water pump can increase the risk of an engine compartment fire.

I thought it had to do with a wire on or near the WP that could possibly short if or after the belt hit it. either way, I don't believe it is very common at all. On the cummins forum, I haven't heard of any catching fire.

2015 6.7L here. I've received the notifications - and the indications of no fix yet. Not worried at all. Keep driving it.

Every time I take that truck in there are a whole series of software updates - everything from the audio display to the emissions controls. They are complicated trucks with tremendous capacity... However, I'd drive it to Canada without a 2nd thought on being reliable tomorrow.

I got the recall notice, I can't even remember how long it's been, but no parts available to fix it yet. During an oil change I asked the service manager at a dealer about the recall. His answer was not to worry about it. The word he was getting was the pump might fail, and if it did it might cause a fire, but that it hasn't happened yet. I believe if it was any more than remotely likely, Ram/Cummings would get on the ball to get the repair parts to the dealers. Neither would want the bad PR of trucks burning up.

My water pump failed at about 60,000 km. Wasn't near a dealer so a local shop replaced it with a reman unit. Really no issues, if pump fails it will leak coolant. Next time I was in dealer, they told me the pump would be replaced regardless of what I had in there as part of their campaign.
The transmission brake interlock - mine is good, a buddies is not. As in the past, you cannot pull it into gear with out pulling the shifter towards you. Muscle memory has trained you to keep your foot on the brake when shifting.
