Hi all! First time posting as we just bought our “new to us” 2014 Raptor 410LEV triple axle toyhauler.

It has original tires which were manufactured in 2012 so we are looking for tires! Current tire is a 235 80/r16. We have been advised to just go ahead and put a G rated tire on. We will possibly be making some long trips and would like to have the safest/longest lasting tire we can afford.

So, question...all I am finding is an 85/r16. Cannot find any 80’s. All I find in the current size is E rated. Rally wanted Carlisle (as I see they are highly recommended here). Should we just stick to the E rated or go to an 85 to acquire a G rated tire?

Also...we need them quickly and can’t wait to ship. So I need to find them in stock in the Houston area

Thoughts? Thanks...we are fairly ignorant when it comes to tires. Lol!

First, check to see if your wheels are rated for 110PSI. If they aren't you'll need both wheels and tires, so you can pretty much buy almost anything within your budget.

If your wheels are rated for 110PSI, then you might look for a SAILUN dealer in your area. A lighter alternative would be Carlisle LRF tires in the 235 85R16 size which are rated at 3960 @ 95PSI.

The Sailun ST tire is available in LRG (14 ply) in two sizes, ST235/80R16 rated at 4080 @ 110PSI and the ST235/85R16 rated at 4400 @ 110PSI. Both should be available from a Sailun dealer in an area as large as Houston. Just keep the max PSI rating for your wheels in mind as you search for replacement tires.

Care must be taken when installing tires with size designations that differ from the ones that were originally installed on the wheels.

Here is what the tire manufacturer's say about it.

"Load and cold inflation pressure imposed on a rim/wheel must not exceed the rim/wheel manufacturer’s recommendation, even though the tire may be marked for a higher load and inflation."

Your OEM wheels are probably rated for 3580# @ 80 PSI.

Keeping that in mind, you can use any of the ST235/80R16 tires with higher load range capacities than LRE. (The load range is not part of the tire size designation). However, at 80 PSI they will all provide the same load capacity.

Look on the backside of the wheel for the rating. It might be on the back of a spoke. Take a wire brush, sandpaper, and a flashlight when you roll under there. Sometimes a lead pencil back and forth over the numbers will help. It may just list the load rating, not the PSI.

IMHO if you have to replace the wheels just go to the Sailun 17.5" H rated & end any further tire concerns. If you weren't in a rush you could contact Performance Trailer Braking as they have a great deal on those tires w/wheels.
On your 40-42' toy hauler the Gs would be the minimum that I'd consider.
Last Nov. I upgraded my Gs to the Hs & was the best mod I've done next to having PTB upgrade my 5er to disc brakes.

My opinion would differ from Travelling Texan's. He is running two axles on his Redwood and you have three axles. H rated tires would be overkill and not worth anywhere near the cost of six new wheels and tires. I would go with the Sailun's if possible and if not then go to Maxxis or to Carlisles.

The Sailuns in 235/80/R16 is what came from factory on my Raptor and I believe that's what they are using on most Raptors and the Fuzions. As others have mentioned make sure your wheels are rated for the higher 110 psi for these tires.

I totally agree, they were/are overkill on mine as well, but I've taken worrying about tires completely off the list. Also I had GY 614 G rated on it from the factory & the deal for the Hs with wheels was cheaper than replacing the Gs & an upgrade to boot.
